Lux support is a troll pick and should not be condoned

Lux support is far to frequent an occurrence in low elo, and is a negative impact in 90% of the games it is picked in. "but wait!" I hear you say, "I picked lux support and won." I never said it didn't win, I said it negatively impacts the game.

  • the support role is the highest filled role and thus the most susceptible to autofill. and because of the frequency of one-trick's (players who only play a single champion because they lack the brain power to learn a 2nd one or refuse to use the power if they have it) in low elo not have the champions to play support, pick lux and openly refuse to play as a support.

  • what do I mean by this? A support is a champion who provides sight, protection and CC for the team (and ADC) in exchange for having less gold and global impact. Lux's kit as a whole does this extreemly well, with two CC abilites, a AOE shield, and sight from both her ultimate and her lucent singularity she fits the description of a support perfectly in theory, however in practice this is farm from the case.

  • Riot has given a lot of love to the support role, simply because people refuse to play it otherwise. from giving them gold items and a item 2049 to giving them fun impactful items such as item 3107 and item 3174 .

  • However, I ask you In how many of your past experiences with a lux support, did you see the lux build these items? I will provide for you one instance where I enjoyed playing with the lux support and even then they did not attempt to build support items.

  • The build alone is not the only thing to look at in this instance, this lux like many, (if not all others) maxed their E first. while at first glance these seems the right thing to do think about how this effects the build, and other jobs of the support. while it does provide an AOE slow, it does not deal damage until recast, and if the lux is leveling this ability it is to deal damage not to slow. by maxing this ability they are also consuming much more mana than if they were to level the other two making them want to opt into a mana regen item.

  • If the lux built a mana regen item such as a item 3174 or item 3107 the issue would be null, however like most other lux players this one went for the mid lane mage item item 3165. this Item costs more, and does less as a support item than any other mana or mana regen item for the support role. As a result of this gold loss for an expensive item this lux did not obtain a item 2049, did not buy a item 3341, and ended the game with a lower sight score than her own ADC.

  • If lux had instead maxed her Q, she would have had more mana, better CC, and more incentive to buy a support item as a result. furthermore if she had opted into maxing her W, she could have purchased a item 3174, and healed her ADC on top of her shield and CC.

  • now lets look at a few other things aside from her build and leveling, namely her gameplay and map movement. From my match history you cant see much but we can however look at map trends... or we could if I knew how to find them so instead think back if you would to that game you as the ADC had a lux support. think about how she left you in lane to gank top lane at 8 min. think about how the thresh bot dove you under turret while she was top side then flamed you for dying. remeber how she told you to just leave turret if they try to dive, so you do and she flames you for letting them take turret? No? well that was my experience with one, and that is just one.

  • I run into a lux support one in every 10 games on average, as I am sure most everyone below gold does. and as such I ask you, did you enjoy that game? Did you like the fact that the lux built like a mage, and either KS'ed or threw the game. It isnt about viablity, its about it being a toxic pick that ruins games for everyone else. One out of every 5 players is an ADC and one out of ever 2 ADCs hate lux support. Everyone blew up about the singed one trick who got his account banned for playing off meta and screwing over the team, so when a large group of non supports ruin the game for real supports and ADCs something needs to be done.

Role is an arbitrary construct in this game. "Support" for all intends and purposes, is just someone who functions outside of the game's 4 main gold incomes sources as the 5th person on the team.

That's it.

All the mumble jumble about what support should or shouldn't do is all arbitrary nonsense.

Brand Annie Zilean Zyra Blitzcrank Karma Lux Taliyah Bard We all disagree with you. We would actually prefer it if you didn't make our gameplay as linear as the ADC's playstyle.

So he prefers a Support Champ that doesnt deal damage, just so he can flame them for being useless even tho they warded?

LOL..

its not as if lux has a root that and CC both enemy laners.. or a shield for herself and her ally, or a long range poke and a slow and a way to get the kill with here ulti even if your ADC fucks it up and lets them escape...

i mean yeah u cant pick lux into hard cc like Blitzcrank Thresh Leona Pyke .

but if u think lux support is a troll pick.. the your an idiot..

thats not so say most people play it properly... most people suck at it because its not something u can blind pick into any opponent.

but just becuase u get morosn on your team who cant play it properly doesn't mean its bad support.

also... item 3174 is shit on lux support.... as it only effect the first target hit by the shield

u get item 3504 and max shield 2nd after E,

item 3504 will allow you to give your entire team permanent attack speed buff, as the duration of the buff is lower than the colldown f her shield at max rank when u consider it goes on cooldown the instant i cast it. and by the time it returns and refreshed the buff duration you shield back to 6 seconds will only have 3 second left on the cooldown.

meaning u can keep it on your whole team indefinitely.

i have single handedly turn around a 5v5 teamfight when we were 10 kills behind and they had baron AND ELDER because of this.

also..building more ap is much more effective than building item 3107, as it makes the shield MUCH stronger than a stupid mere % would. as well as making u do more damage

first back u grab item 3098 then you get item 3070 item 1001 item 3504 item 3020 item 3003

item 3905 last items are normally item 3089 and the final item depends on your team and the enemy team.

then after u finihs all that u can grab item 2139 and finish the worthless gold sink of item 3092

I play mostly Lux support. I start my support item, max my Q first (it actually does more damage if than your E per level if you can actually land it) and I focus almost entirely on warding for most of my games. I consistently finish with at LEAST 3x the vision score of anyone on my team. This includes clearing wards, and also placing them (in addition to pinks.) I totally understand where you're coming from in this post, as almost every time I see a Lux support they do exactly what you're talking about.

I will disagree with building the mana/support item however. It's not useful in the long term, especially when one of Lux's biggest values comes from sniping objectives. For this you need maximum AP, and besides that point. You are never in fights long enough to where you mana becomes an issue if you are using your abilities correctly (using Q to poke instead of throwing 70+ mana Es.) The primary issue I see is not with the fact that people who play Lux support are playing Lux support, it's that they don't know how to play Lux period, and haven't looked at what her skills actually offer (or taken into account the actual damage numbers.)

My two cents.

I play ahri so I have a tendency to ban lux in case she happens to terrorize my mid lane. I don't have this problem.

When Shurelia made Lux's spotlight, she called her "a support mage". She was meant to support.

Also when I look at some pros, I see for example aphromoo, promisq or KaSing playing Lux support so it's apparently not that bad as you think it is.

Well in low elo when you get auto-filled as Support you think... "I need to pick a character that MIGHT damage carry even as a Support cause my team is going to SUCK. (which is true more often than not)"

So you build a SS and then rush full AP damage (item 3107 isn't even that good if people are too disorganised to group up and most of the game's being decided by random picks)

Makes perfect sense to me

If you had paypal, I'd give you a dollar for that OP. :P

Seriously though, I've said the same thing on the Boards many times. In thousands of games through the years and hundreds of Lux support attempts, I've seen maybe five that were good and a few mediocre, while the rest were absolute garbage. Those that player her almost never do anything except build full damage and occasionally build Eye of the Watchers and ward but that almost takes an act of God.

High mana costs, squishy, easily avoidable damage/poke, limited/conditional utility. All weaknesses.

She has practically no strengths as she will ostensibly be an underfed mage with minimal damage potential and a source of free gold for the enemy team.

Lux does many things, none of them as well as other, specialized support champions. I dodge or open when I have a Lux support in my games.
