"Unlike you, I play skillful champions"

What you see in the title is a quote from one of my friends during a League game we were playing together. I mainly play Sona support and I'm not going to claim that Sona takes massive amounts of skill to play. I admit myself that during teamfights I literally just R and then spam Q and W until we win. And if we start losing I start spamming W and E until we either escape or die. Their comments towards me playing champions that don't take skill aren't anything new, but it's something I've been thinking about.

Generally this line comes out whenever I mention something I did as Sona that was better than average. "Well, you see the only reason you did that was because Sona takes no skill."

Cool, but they're still dead aren't they?

Basically their point is I'm not good at League of Legends because I play a champion that takes no skill. But I don't see why it matters as to whether the champion I play has a complex skillset or not if we win. "I only lost because you were playing a no skill champ" But if playing a high skill champion is suppose to prove that you're better than me, then why did you lose? Surely a champion with more versatility than mine would have won?

Your friend sounds like a baby. Why bother listening to what they say? No champion in the game is that hard to play. Now playing them well is another story entirely. If Sona is your thing, just stick to her. I've known people like that, I just respond with "Ok" and move on with my life.

You have shitty friends.

Presumably your friends are playing champions with high mechanical complexity?

I personally think game knowledge skills - such as knowing when to take action, positioning, map awareness, rotations, shot-calling, etc. are much more "skillful" than mechanical ability.

Champions who can do a lot of different tricks to turn any situation to their advantage are difficult to play mechanically, but they're actually often much easier to play well than champions with simpler kits. Those players need to have fast reactions and be able to hit their keys quickly in the right order, but once they've got past that, they tend to have some answer to any situation, which means they don't have to think about the bigger picture as much.

I have much more respect for someone playing a great Sona or Amumu than I do for someone playing a great Yasuo or Lee Sin.

Simple champions, easy to grasp, but with clear strengths and weaknesses and often no answer if they find themselves in a bad situation.

Except Sona takes a lot of positioning skill. I'd like to see their KDAs on a champ that both needs to be close to all their teammates but also away from the enemy. Sona's 4 abilities might not take a lot of skill, but thanks to no mobility and squishy build paths she's one of the harder supports to actually execute properly against competent players.

tl;dr your friend is a stupid fuck

Doesn't sound like much of a friend if all they do is talk down on you even when you do something good...

They don't sound like friends to me. There is so much more to league than what it takes to learn a champion. Knowing how to play a champion well is just one book on one shelf in the library that we call League of Legends

The appropriate reply is: Is your win rate significantly higher as a result? Because if it ain't, then perhaps you don't have the skill to play those champs http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/creepypasta/images/9/9a/Fantasy_art_smiling_grin_demon_hoody_1680x1050_wallpaper_www.miscellaneoushi.com_37.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20141112235506

It doesn't matter what champion you play. People can cry "oh x champion takes no skill" but in the end a victory is a victory. If you enjoy the champion then play it. I play katarina and main her. Low elo hse takes little skill to none i feel but higher up she is very complex to play. Everyone just "says" that so they feel better about themselves so that they justify why they lost or they have the "i'm better" complex so they need to make everything you do seem less then it really is. Maybe you need new friends, or just inform them to refrain from such rude comments.

If were being fair, no champion really takes skill. We have 4 abilities... and 2 summoners.

Sona takes a LOT of skill. It is just not an aimbot skill. But timing her casts, moving and positioning for maximum effect is a true dancing art. I only saw one proper Sona game pros did and it was long ago now its a forgotten art i'm likely the only keeper of.

When playing Sona, you have to be able to count to three - That's skill, baby!
