Updated Champ Select/Loading Screen Pop Ups

I have been playing league for about 18 months, ~700 normals, 1200 arams, and 200 games in the various game modes. One of the things that makes me play so many ARAMs and featured game modes over the normals is of course the community of league of legends. I played 12 or 13 ranked games last season, got ranked Gold V then played a few more. It was not a fun experience. I play this game for fun, not to argue with others, not to be yelled out for a call someone didn't like, not to be made fun of for a build i'm trying out (normals), i play for fun. This isn't the first time you've heard it, but i'd like to propose some simple steps that may help with a few of the common concerns about playing 5v5s, (esp draft and ranked). Some of these are just suggestions about the information on these screens, not all of it will actually apply to the "fixing the community" thing.

Now, i think there are some fundamental issues with internet culture that prevents the improvement of the league community to any significant degree, but i do think we can get some improvements little by little. Here are a few things i'd like to see:

  1. That either one of the old text boxes is changed or a new one is added for draft and ranked champ select. This box would include any of the following:
  • "Pick Order > Call Order"
  • "Learning more than one role is helpful for both you and our future team mates. Try to communication your strengths and weaknesses to your team."
  • "If you can only play one role consider playing in blind until you are comfortable in other lanes or the jungle."
  • "Make picks based upon what you know best rather than counters or what others suggest.

These of course are just some examples, i think what is most important is that Riot takes a stance on what is and what is not okay in ranked/draft games. If they are cool with ppl going "mid or feed," well then don't change anything, but the idea behind this is that it means players cannot pretend to be ignorant of ranked queue etiquette. I only report ppl who say "mid or feed" if they 1) actually feed, or 2) rage when we don't give them mid. I'm fine losing a game to make sure one of those kids doesn't get mid, and i'd like it to be within the code to be able to report them for putting themselves above their team mates.

  1. Loading screen tips that aren't just about being nice to team mates (although those are good), but perhaps some practical information. For example:
  • How much gold dragon is worth at 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 mins
  • Reminders about buffs/dragons/baron spawn timers
  • How often minion waves spawn, or that melee minions are worth more than ranged
  • Tips regarding how to play when behind (If you are having trouble in lane, ask your jungler for a gank, otherwise try to farm under tower without giving up kills). Of course, what the best option for each match up is subjective based on play styles and team comps around those lanes.
  • How spell shields or even how the Hourglass work with certain ults and kills
  • Being behind does not mean you will lose, come backs DO happen.

Some of these would be helpful to vets, some would be helpful to newbies, some to both.

  1. Since loading screens tend to vary in length perhaps the amount of information on that screen could be increased for those longer wait times. I've had loads as fast as 20 seconds or as slow as 5 mins, perhaps not everyone will read them...but it can't be that much work to just throw some text on a loading screen.
  • Perhaps place actual quotes from the summoner's code on this screen. I'd like to see stuff on reporting, believe it or not. Too many people do not know what you can and cannot report people for. You cannot report someone because they walked into your lane and last hit a cs...you can report someone if they told you to go kill yourself. Extremes, but you get my point.
  1. During the tutorial, or during bot games, there should be additional pop ups with information about game mechanics and "good" behavior during the game. Since this is subjective it should be more about what you SHOULDN'T do rather than what you should. You shouldn't' insult your team mates, whether you call them "baby" or not, well that is up to you.
  • These could be turned off by players who just go back to do bot games for fun after a certain amount of games, or even after they hit level 30.

5) Also as a side note about draft queue, i've seen people get reported because they weren't communicating, then after game (after the person had already reported them) they say that they were chat restricted. I'm sure they deserved the chat restriction...but getting reported because you got reported seems dumb lol. I did only see that once though.

Anyway, I had a lot more on my mind when i started this post, but i'm short on words for now. If you have additional comments, or perhaps you think this is a dumb idea, feel free to say it. You have the right to lol.
