What should I do?

Hello, I started playing League of Legends last week and I had never played a MOBA before. At first I didn't know which champion to choose but I've come to really like playing Caitlyn. I practiced against bots a lot of time and tried PvP with my friends a few time. Today I went on a game with one of my friend but someone called adc first. So I asked which champion I should pick and explained to them that I rarely played someone else so they told me to pick a support like Soraka or Sona but I don't have these champions. So I didn't know who to choose and since I didn't want to play with a random champion I just picked Caitlyn again. The first one to have called ad said that if I took his cs he would intentionally feed. So as the game started I was a little bit stressed because I rarely played in PvP so I forgot to buy my first item and started to go to my lane.

I got pinged multiple times by a master yi who reminded me to buy an item so I went back, bought an item and apologized via chat saying that I was new and sorry to ruin his game because of that. I don't remember exactly what he replied but it was in all caps and negative. He kept saying negative stuff targeted towards me so my friend told me to /mute all. I went to bot lane with draven(the one who had called adc before me) and just attacked the other champions, avoiding to take his minion kills. I did the best I could to help him but got 0/7/2 through the entire game. We won the game but after the game, master yi said in the chat "look at caitlyn stats" or something like that. I replied stating again that I was new but he kept going on so I didn't reply much after that. He looked at my match history and mocked me for having an AI game with 6 deaths(one player was afk and I had no support) and he said that all I was doing was feeding the enemy team with Caitlyn. I just said "ok" and left.

What should I do? Should I play other champions than Caitlyn? What did he mean by "all you do is feed" and what should I do to avoid angering my teammates?

A new player. I feel bad for new players.

First off, this game is pretty hard to get into, especially if it's your first MOBA. Just give it time.

Second, you have free rotation champs. There are multiple champions you can play that aren't Caitlyn, so just ask which free rotation champion you should play for the role you're playing. (Never play jungle until level 9 where you unlock smite. If you have to jungle just tell your team that you don't have smite)

Third, "feeding" means when you're just dying and not doing much. Don't feel bad because it happens to every new player, especially because there are a bunch of advanced players playing on accounts they just made. Don't be discouraged.

I'd use "/mute all" at the beginning of games to avoid flame. Good luck going on and if you have any questions ask :D

EDIT: Never leave games. You will get a penalty if you do it 2-3 times, so just don't. Just play through and even if you feed it's fine as long as you're trying and learning.

There is a free week rotation that gives 2 of every role, including support. This week bard and karma are the free supports so you should give them a go. Each week there are 14 different champions on the free rotation so you can go ahead and test all those champions. Also I wouldn't recommend doing /mute all because some times other people on your team have good things to say so stick to just muting the person who is being toxic. Just do your best and you'll be fine.

it's like this in all competitive games, you can be absolutely perfect and somebody will still find a reason to yell at you. you'll get used to it. Just ignore them, they can be angry if they want, that's their problem. mute them if you have to. play what you like, and just give it time and you'll be good. Don't let what they say get to you, winning games though your own abilities is that matters.
