I came for the Quinn, and stayed for the Valor
Bullets and solution at bottom.
When I first picked up Quinn, I was relatively new to the game. I , like many others, was attracted to the falconry fantasy, (I loved the "Far side of the Mountain" series as a kid). She was my first ADC. But as I played her more, and got better at the game, I naturally began to play more into her niche, as opposted to trying to take her into the meta ADC role. I've come to really think of her as more of an 'Assassin Damage Carry'. She excels at catching people out and splitpushing. She will never be a good meta ADC, and I don't really want her to be.
I learned early to figure out my playstyle, and pick champs around that. I play all ins. My biggest learning curve was figuring out when to engage. I main Diana, and I fed a lot early, but then i learned to snowball. Oh man, is she fun. Same thing with Quinn. I find it surprising that with the advent of Kindred and the Mordekaiser rework, that Riot would decide that she must be made a Traditional ADC. She already makes a compelling alternative ADC, mid or top.
Her main criticisms are that her passive is just too unreliable for an adc, her e puts her in the 'danger zone', ( Yasuo can ult off it), and her range is too short to siege. These are all JUST Quinn's criticisms, Valor has his own set!! MELEE, MELEE MELEE, and no passive. But I think these are all things that I think ADC mains think of as wrong. People who play Quinn have different opinions than people who play ADC and have merely tried Quinn. Think about that last sentence, it's important.
Quinn's strength is valor. Valor's strength is his w passive. His free at max rank 80% attack speed is massive. It allows Quinn to build almost no attack speed early, and still be able to tear down towers. This also allows Quinn to burst down an unsuspecting squishy in just 2 hits, and force a back, at least. This all has been removed. All of Valor's passive strength is gone since he can't attack anymore.
Now onto this suggested rework. In my opinion, I think it will be unsuccessful. I usually don't criticize until reworks are live for awhile, but I think I see where Riot wants to take her, and I'll tell you why I don't think it will really work. She isn't Jinx or Caitlin. So much of her strength in the rest of her kit has been sacrificed for an always available speed boost that is easy for the enemy to cancel. She currently can get out of position quickly, but kill the enemy carry before they can react. Quinn is strong because she is a duelist. She is a duelist because of her blind. She will now be forced to be a passive-less splitpusher, (unless she gives up a tower attack every few seconds to reset her w passive, if enemy minions are even around). She is now a super mobile assassin with no burst, or a super chicken adc with low range. Once she is caught out or she catches the enemy out, she must duel with half the power she used to have. Once she uses her hyper mobility to join a teamfight, she has unreliable damage, a random AI passive damage modifier, a q passive application that can be blocked from the intended target, and an e passive application that can put her in danger.
Valor, who was seen as her weakness, was actually her strength. For 20 seconds, he could get to a tower and tear it down with crazy speed, and still have enough of his ult left to be halfway into their jungle by the time they get back to defend. Now, that is all gone. Below I have highlighted her new negatives
1. Q passive application is easily creep blocked. No blind absolutely murders her dueling power. She also can't blind enemy to mess up their cs-ing.
2. Valor can no longer attack. Splitpush tower taking has been gutted.
3. Her e, her passive, and her range makes her a close quarters fighter, but without her blind it is no longer about outplay, now its about outdamage.
4. Her damage at end of R has been gutted to allow a non-existant cooldown. Once again, removes assassination potential, and forces her to be a less reliable adc. She is hyper-mobile, but can't do much once she gets there.
I do have some suggestions that will bring her back to where she was, and allow for her blind removal and complete removal of valor as a fighter. SHE NEEDS MORE UTILITY. Losing Valor as a fighter was a bigger nerf than people realize, and she needs buffs. Each of these are listed, top to bottom, according to importance and feasibility. 1. Lower the channel on her ult, or remove it. It's too easy for her to get knocked out of it for it to take that long to get off the ground. But keep the particles though!! I love those. 2. Allow Valor to pass over walls that his W active gives vision over. This would probably be tougher to code so other vision sources don't also allow this, that would be admittedly op. Once vision fades, even if terrain was revealed prior, it would expire after the normal period, and she would no longer be able to pass the terrain. 3. This one is pie in the sky for me, but i think it would allow more power in her Q, albeit make it hard to code and then also feel natural in the gameplay. Quickcasting Q twice in quick succession would send out a straight skillshot projectile after the second Q. Quickcasting once would start a channel only visible to the player, that would disable all other abilities. Visually it would appear like Kalista's ult, or Varus' Q. Quinn can still autoattack and orbwalk like normal. During the next second you can trace a simple curve to send valor out, within the normal range, to attack. Valor would self launch at the end of the channel and follow your direction. If Q is reactivated, it becomes a straight skillshot, and cancels the direction you were giving.
This would allow, with good prediction skills, for the Quinn player to apply her passive with q even if the other team is hiding in the creeps. Most of her power was given up for the triple passive proc fantasy, but this will be very hard to pull off it seems, and this would make it more attainable.
This will bring Quinn back into the falconry niche, the character that I first thought of her as. I didn't start playing her to be a bird, but that is what her character is good at. It's time to put Quinn back in charge. This CAN be a successful rework, even though I personally don't really see it as necessary. I just feel that a lot of what was removed was mistaken for weakness, when it really was strength. She lost a lot of power if the rework stays as it is. I would rather this rework didn't happen, but if it must, we are losing Valor as a fighter anyway, I'd rather not lose Quinn as well.
