What is with this Season and Matching System.

I can't understand how Riot does this MR and matching. It just baffles me at how it takes longer to actually rank up then it does to derank. From the past couple of games I have had to try and carry my team which hasn't been easy. This isn't even the worst part. I am only getting 14-16 LP a win while I lose almost double the amount I get for a lost. Just curious who in the hell does the calculations for this?
