Early Worlds Event Gemstones Glitch?

Towards the beginning of this event I opened around 100 chests. I waited about a week before I started buying more and the day that I did there was a minor update, after I updated I went to the store and bought my 27 chests. In them I got 3 gemstones. And the next day I bought 27 more and got 3 more gemstones. So, I'm just bumbfounded if not getting a single gemstone out of 100 boxes was anything but a bug. I know I'm probably in the strong minority of players that have purchased this many boxes during the event but if anyone else could vouch that would be amazing!
