If there is a problem with the neww 10 ban system, it's not due to 'wasted bans'

Quite a few people seem very angry about the simultaneous picking of bans in the new proposed 10 ban system. Specifically people think that if the enemy bans the same champion as them their ban was wasted. Some think that meta champs being double banned means we aren't really getting 10 bans.

Firstly, enemy bans are Not a good thing. From a competitive standpoint every ban the enemy makes either makes no difference to your team comp, or it hinders you, by preventing a member of your team from playing their intended champion (or a backup champion). Ignoring things such as enemies banning out their own teammates, so they play different champions (aka banning Yasuo) only your bans are beneficial to your team. So we aren't moving from a 6 ban system to a 10 ban system, we're moving from a 3 ban system to a 5 ban system. In the current system if you're lucky and the enemy team bans first, they might ban 2 champs that your team intended to ban before you ban them, and you will effectively get 5 bans, but that will rarely happen, and in any other case, this new system gives your team more effective bans. If someone bans the same champion as you, neither of you 'wasted' your bans, you both got what you wanted, neither of you wanted to deal with that champion, and you wont have to.

Some other reasons people have pointed out this new system is a problem is that 'we need the full 10 bans to keep up with the increase in champions'. However the increase in champion pool is not in itself reason to increase the amount of bans. The small champion pool we had in the past was a limitation preventing us from having more than 3 bans per team. Some have said that more bans would increase diversity in games, and it might; but i think game balance is a far better place to try and regulate diversity then the banning system.

This new system will accomplish what the banning system is meant to accomplish. If all you want out of banning is to eliminate the maximum number of 'strong' or 'meta' champions, you will probably continue thinking that bans are being wasted. However if you want get rid of that champion that you just don't know how to deal with, or counters your champion/team/playstyle, the new banning system will give agency to every player and allow them to do just that.

I don't think you understand that your enemies bans are strategically important to what your team decides to ban.

If they ban a general OP champ then you can use yours to remove a more specific counter to your champ or comp.

If it doesn't make sense for competitive why would it make sense for everyone else?

Finally some person who has logic. I completely agree with everything you say, and I want more people to see this.

the system would be great if the game was balanced. Its not, so the system is not good.

people are upset because the 10 ban system was supposed to start perma banning champs that riot refuses to balance correctly. in a true 10 ban system how many games do u think champs like lee sin lulu yasuo leblanc Lucian are getting through? 1 out of 10? 1 out of 20? some never getting through? imagine an actually 10 ban system where champs have 99ish percent ban rate do think riot is just gonna sit there let that go on? nope it will force there hand to nerf. this is what people want they want the power to collectively say these champs are bul shit and either fix them or nobody gets to play them now.

At the end of the day, the new system is pointless. If we banned 6 unique champions before, and we are banning 6 unique champions after, then it accomplishes nothing. Hurrah for giving the ban phase a facelift I guess? Who cares? That's not what the community asked for.

I think that the major issue is that it is a stark divergence from the normal banning process for all of league's history with no other indication than "here's it is on PBE". While most of what you say is true, most of the time in my elo the enemy usually bans 1 or 2 of the champions that my team wanted to ban anyway, so the benefits aren't as high as you're stating. Since there are so many power picks, the overlap is pretty large.

In a perfect scenario of a truly balanced game, this would be correct; but we have already seen a world tournament where it was second pick's duty to ban Mordekaiser in every game, regardless of play style. Gamebreaking content takes priority, and not being able to see the other team's picks are bad for second pick team in particular.

What the new banning system fails at, is to create a contest between the two teams about the composition of the teams.

While each player is now granted the ability to remove an unwanted opponent, the game-play that results from your pick being banned, and not you must pick an alternative and therefore the bans must also change, is lost.

What u are saying would be great... if the game was balanced.

If all you want out of banning is to eliminate the maximum number of 'strong' or 'meta' champions, you will probably continue thinking that bans are being wasted.

U are forced to ban them because they aren't just strong they're overpowered usualy. And there to many since few patch.

You say that as if bronze and any elo below high diamond bans won't look something like this Teemo Blitzcrank Leblanc Yasuo Katarina Zed Illaoi Xayah AatroxVolibear
