Can we get a hotfix for the hotfix? PLEASE! (Support items)
While as a support main I understand why Riot did the changes, I am hoping like heck that it is realized that it is not working entirely as planned. Here's some of the annoying problems I've found with the "hotfixed" support items:
-
Running coin: a. You are within range of the adc for an entire exchange. There are multiple coin drops. If the adc (or nearby teammate) moves out of range briefly during the melee (say you had to clear a ward at river bush so your team doesn't get backlined) , the flag for the support item kicks in and suddenly you can't pick up the coin. b. This happened at redside tower just after a fight - 2 gold coins dropped as I was beside the adc. Playing Soraka, I moved to heal the jungler who was low at the bush just to the west of the turret - he had just finished a fight with the other jungler. I then found that I couldn't pick up either one of the coins which dropped when I was in range of the entire team on botlane. c. A gold coin can drop when you are in range of the adc. If you and the adc move away from the coin, and if your distance triggers the anti-frostfarm flag, then you still can't pick the gold coin up - EVEN WHEN YOU ARE BESIDE THE ADC AND THE ADC IS THERE WITH YOU TO GET THE COIN.

Running frostfang: a. Some of the supports which were fine for frostfang (e.g., Nami) really can fall behind hard if you have an average to weak (aka autofilled or slightly off-meta) adc. This is even more true since the support item "hotfix" (aka nerf). I think only Brand and Zyra (and possibly Velkoz or Neeko) may be the only supports that can withstand the test of the support item change. b. The death of the adc is brutal if you run frostfang. If the adc dies during an exchange, you are faced with the situation of being gold deprived (and/or xp deprived if you suddenly are put in the situation where the best option is to roam). Consequently, if the adc blows it, then you are in a situation where it is two teammates which are behind - even more since the hotfix change.
And this doesn't even begin to cover the fact that most support items are either too expensive or lousy (because when it gets good for supports, then other lanes abuse it). [I mean how hard it is to tie the use of support-related items to the presence of Spellthief, Coin or Targon's on a champion???]
Alternatively, the support items lack creative expression. I can only think of one support item - Mikaels - which actually makes you feel useful as a support (well, maybe Locket too - but that has been nerfed to oblivion). But generally speaking, we are nearly back to the situation where there is not much satisfaction in playing the support role. And the hotfix has not helped support - at all.
