Not understanding why Soraka is considered overpowered. Advice please.

Hello, I generally play support as a preferred role and my duo partner requested I play Soraka. Not only did I do absolutely horrible, I did atrociously. What's the secret I'm missing as far as her being overpowered? Damage is mediocre, delay on CC means everyone even without boots just walks through it, self killing heal means if I miss a single Starcall I die in 3 hit thanks to thunderlords decree, and the intense cooldown on Wish makes it only useful 2-3 times per game. The only redeeming quality I see her having is her passive, which allows me to run to my ADC and I's death faster.Soraka ??

im guessing you didnt press w on your teammate well enough

this isnt even sarcastic, you probably didnt max it, positioned awfully, didn't cast it off cd, and didn't react fast to incoming damage

The secret is probably good positioning, and with good positioning I mean both you and your ADC. If your ADC over extents and the enemy isn't braindead then there is nothing you can really do because she dies incredibly fast and has no escapes. Use of your E can also be tricky, its an important zoning tool but where to best use it depends on the enemy's skill set, you have to know what the enemy wants to do so you can prevent it. And just like every other champion she has bad match-ups, she does poorly against champions with dashes that can easily all in you or have good displacement CC.

And the longer the game goes on the more useless she can feel, once the team fights start and people get focused down there is little you can do to keep people alive if they make too much of a target of themselves, you can only heal so much.

The opposite is also true, with good positioning and against champions that can't get to you you may seem unkillable in lane, and once the team fights start and the enemy can't get a good engage on your team you'll keep people alive seemingly forever.
