Can we talk about life steal?
I have always wondered for a bit why certain champions seemed to get more benefit from lifesteal than others. For example, I always felt like Draven would receive more healing from his Doran's blade than any other ADC's I've faced, given masteries and runes the same. I was trying to figure out why that was.
I think I might have figured it out, possibly.
Draven is known to have some of the hardest-hitting basic attacks, so long as his blades are spinning.
If a minion has, say, 100 health remaining, and a champion, any champion, basic attacks it, if they have 100% life steal, it would be assumed they could steal all 100 health from the minion, thus healing by 100 HP after the minion is killed.
However, I believe life steal is taken from damage dealt, meaning if a champion dealt 300 damage in that auto attack, with 100% life steal, they would get 300 health back, even though the minion only has 100 HP left to give.
Since life steal implies you are stealing their life, shouldn't it be unable to steal more HP from a target than they actually have to give?
I think this explains why Draven and other champions that hit hard were seeming to get more from the same life steal items as me or my adc. He deals so much damage with a single auto attack, he gets back more than someone who hits less hard even with the same lifesteal amounts.
I think this should be changed. It doesn't make sense to be stealing life beyond the life they actually have.
