Can you fix Skarner E crystal on auto or buff it sort of?

So I have been realizing that when you E someone and attack just right after it even though the 3 crystal rings are around the person it does not turn them into a crystal but AFTER the first auto it does. Can you either buff this or fix it since i really hate when I E some one and auto just right after it but it does not register as a crystallize effect.
