League of Legends: The Illusion of Stratagy (summarized version)

I usually don't post a lot on here, and when I do I usually try to keep it short and to the point, but this is gonna be about two years of thoughts, shorten as much as I can. Does anyone remember the first time they saw gameplay of League of Legends? Maybe you watched LCS or a friend playing it, either way, the more you heard people talk about LoL, it sounded like a super complex and deep game, with over 100 characters, a lot of items that make your champion stronger in different ways, many different ways to win the game and the team with better teamwork and strategy would win. And while this can still be the case, how often do you encounter that in a Solo/Duo game? Not that often. When I started playing in late Season 4, I wanted to be a Jungler so I could help my lanes and, in theory, have pressure around the map. And while I now realize starting with Jungle was probably really dumb as it requires a lot of game knowledge, there would still be situations where laners would push up past river without wards, die to a gank and blame me while I was on the other side of the map. I thought, "okay this is only because I'm new and once I get to playing ranked games I'll be playing with better players but until then I need to play a Lane." So I tried a little of every lane and what I decided to play was Mid since it was a carry role and I really liked Assassin's like Zed, Leblanc, and Ahri. Doing this, I got to maybe like Gold 3 because I was mechanically "okay" but the main draw to playing mid in Ranked was if I got fed enough then I could Solo Carry without relying too much on my team, which is a lot different than I had originally thought ranked was. I thought that the strategy was gonna be brought front and center and that, mixed with skill, was going to decide who won the game, not who got the most kills early could solo carry a game. Then I still had that same mentality of "Okay I have Gold 4 MMR, when I get to Plat 5, that's when strategy will become most important" So until then I decided to become an AD main (Like Pre Season 6 and Still maining it now) But once I got to Plat 5, it was more of the same. Players were beginning to CS a lot better and were a little more disciplined with their abilities and knowing when to back off, but even still, games were decided based on who had the better champs. And some champs are just outclassed by champs that do the same thing they do but better. Why would you pick Irelia to split push when they have a Tryndamere that does it so much better? Why pick Sivir to carry with when Xayah does basically the same job but better? I'm sure you could make a bunch of these comparisons among different types of Champions, but that's the point, Riot keeps releasing champs into the game that are essentially just updated versions of older champs. Nidalee Mid was really fucking good awhile back, but then they didnt like how she could one shot from far away, but a few seasons later they release Zoe. The same thing goes for items, where some items are basically necessary on champions and a lot of people are just Copy and Pasting builds from sites like op.gg, maybe making a few tweaks for the game they're in, while some items barely get any love at all, like when was the last time someone in your game built an ohmwrecker? Now, stuck at Plat 2-Plat 3, this is still the case in my games, and it's more or less just a Silver V game just with more mechanical players, and a little bit better game knowledge. Mechanics are the single biggest difference in games, the strategy is still very similar to what people were doing in Silver or Gold, and if you have a one trick pony on your team (as a lot of people do that in Plat trying to get Diamond) then if they get ahead because of their mechanics, they can win you the game even if the other team is playing around objectives a lot better and playing around their carries. I don't think it's even possible for Riot to make the Changes that I think are necessary to fix the game, because what I think would fix it is reworking or atleast tweaking all the champs and items in the game that haven't gotten a big overhaul in the last like idfk 18 months or something like that. Flesh out the champions that are there, make them super unique, look at Overwatch, I think the game has like 28 Heroes and while it can be a bit repetitive since you see the same team comps a lot, there's no doubt that each character is distinct from each other. With 140ish Characters that have been redone to make it so that each one feels as uniquely different as they do in Overwatch, league could be an almost unbelievably deep game. Couple this with making more items viable, and this game would easily become a totally different game. I understand that what I'm saying would require an insane amount of Work and Time, but tbh I wouldn't mind if they took a few Seasons off from releasing new champs, and just worked on fixing what's in the game. Because there's honestly a lot in the game to work with, and if they managed to fine tune everything, this game could be better than it's ever been.
