Velkoz late game

So why is it that the eye of disintegration is the only mage that falls off late game? That seems to me to be the opposite of what a mage should do. I know you guys are thinking what are you talking about he still does a crap load late game if he has items yata yata, yeah kinda. But he doesn't really scale well like other mages do. He is more defined by his strong mid game spike and his late game really is just decent at best. But he's not the only mage with a great mid game spike (viktor, syndra, kennen, LB, etc.) And some of these champs go right into late game just as powerful or are more mobile etc. Velkoz just seems kinda weird to me and I guess I'm not the only one because he's not played very often. Maybe riot should give him mobility buffs or remove base damage in exchange for scaling? A low mobility mage with below average late game insurance is just bizarre to me. But maybe I'm wrong. Enlighten me with your knowledge.

Most mages are mid-game champions.

You get ~55 damage per level-up through skill ranks on them. Several have a dead-weight ability in their Q,W, or E so you can max out their base damages sub-18, usually clocking in at ~1000 base. That's why you send them mid-lane: most experience, most power through levels, really strong mid-game.

As for Leblanc Syndra in particular, those are very single-target heavy. Would much rather have a Velkoz on my team late-game for all those teamfights. Melt 5 champions bringing them into the red over deleting 1? Yes please, he's an extremely strong team-fighter, which makes him a huge asset late-game. A good Vel'Koz will do considerably more damage to enemy champions than those 2 come late-game.

If he wasn't support. Support Vel'Koz falls off a cliff late-game, because that's what damage carries do when you don't give them any gold to carry.

So why is it that the eye of disintegration is the only mage that falls off late game?

Otherwise - really have never seen this in-action. End-game Vel'Koz is really scary, at least assuming reasonable CS and proficiency with the champion.

If you're struggling with him end-game: Try grouping up more, and try hitting as many foes (within reason) as you can with his skills.

His damage without items is one of the best in game. Hit your Q-W-E-W and its 2 passive procs and tons of damage. He also has more CC than Viktor, Syndra and LB and more range/lesser cooldowns than Kennen. I actually prefer playing him as a support: with easy 40% cdr(10% masteries+10% gold item+20% athene/morello/anything else) you can spam your spells for CC and passive procs that hurt even with 0 AP. Giving him some buffs while nerfing base damages would turn him into an average poke mage. And if you want to play him mid, focus more on cdr(athene/morello), penetration(void) and utility(liandry+rylai) than on pure AP(rabadon is still a must-have as 6th item, and probably zhonyas too). His kit is more "anti-tank sustained damage" than burst (although ADCs still drop from a single combo), so abuse it

Damage wise you're right in that he kind of falls off once people start getting bigger health pools and resistances but regardless of that, his ult NEVER stops winning team fights. I think the main reason he doesn't seem much play is because of how much counter play his kit has and how its really up to player skill on both sides whether velkoz does no damage or a ton of damage. On a good day you're melting everyone easily and on a bad day you whiff everything because you made a poor read on their movement and then float around for like 10 second uselessly waiting for CDs. Usually the team fight is lost by then. Why deal with that when you just pick someone like annie and KNOW what you're getting.

Did you know Brand can easily kill a vel'koz when they are both lvl 6? Been there done that. I felt like a helpless tentacle monster.

In my experience it's the total opposite - late game vel is about as scary as a proficient Anivia player. It's ridiculous how much damage he puts out.
