A thought for having ap support items keep up with tanky tones
So we all know that, at the end of the day, the active effects of Crucible/Locket are going to be the number 1 support combo. Supports are meant to make it easier for carry champs to carry, right? Thus, support itemization tends to reflect the support mission in most cases. Still, we have ap scalings on every support in the game, and even Riot acknowledged that ap support items are regularly outdone by the these two items especially. What if we introduced two things:
-
Some means for supports to better keep up in gold over time? This game is designed to reward people with gold, and then have people scale with that gold. We know supports don't cs, but supports are more "within their own realm" than actual dynamic parts of a team draft. Like, for example, if you have a team comp of
, and you're thinking to yourself "We could use a better front line than this...", you're basically fucked regardless since supports don't have the gold to be tanky enough to be the foundation of a front line, with exceptions being a really clutch Braum shield or an Alistar in his ult. Since the game is centered around gold, having some better means for supports to get gold would be a good way to have them actually keep up in their builds better. Besides, who else is tired of seeing LCS results where everyone's on like 3 items + boots and the support has an Eye, boots, and one item between Locket or Crucible? -
AP support item actives that scaled with ap? The thing with Locket/Crucible is that their actives are straight ridiculous, but their stats aren't too crazy (Locket being better than Crucible). What if we had something like that for ap items, but since they'd scale with ap built, things like Ardent Censor and Banner of Command, which have cool stats and not nearly as useful effects, will be more worth buying for supports buying these types of items, especially if we had more gold to buy them with. So let's say some item's active is that it tosses a shield onto an ally/allies in a radius with some base + % ap scaling, or something like that?
Really just spitballing ideas, and itemization is way better than it used to be for sure. Still, Crucible and Locket are SO efficient it's rather hard to justify buying anything else over them, even if I absent-mindedly buy Locket against an all ad team (did that once before...won...>_>).
Edit: Now, guys, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying mage supports are weak atm. I'm saying that everyone is building Locket/Crucible, and not many of them are really playing into their ap scalings. This is a suggestion to actually have mage supports use their scalings, not to make them all busted.
