Help in Lane

Sorry this is my first post and kinda don't know if this is supposed to be here or not and if it is not in its correct please feel free to move it. Thanks! I was just looking for some tips on how to lane better. When i lane...I usually play top (Those are just a few champs I play a lot of in Top lane) a lot I always attempt to move up and get CS and always get hit hard and lose lots of HP and are forced back and in the end lose lots of CS and I never am able to push lane out of my side on to theirs ending with me losing lane and lower CS then the other laner. What can I do to improve this and become better at laning overall?
