I hate making 90% of the damage to minions only to have a fellow minion get the last hit and I get nothing for it....
This breaks the game, it makes no sense.
Either give me 90% of the gold, split it down the middle or make up something new, but this last-hit business has got to go.

Last hitting is important because its one inherent aspect of minion wave control and management. A crucial skill to acquire if you would like to reach a high level of play. Knowing when, why, and how to push or freeze a lane is vital. Last hitting is the way it is because it's intended to function as a means of hurting or helping you for improper or proper wave management.

It makes sense when you get into the game and then go try games without such a mechanic. last hitting creates a rhythm to the early game that both players try to follow and disrupt in a game of tug-of-war/push-the-payload that breaks out into small trades. If any damage is equally acceptable then long range AoE spells easily leech the lion's share of the gold from a wave with no effort or risk to the player and in general there would simply be too many easy opportunities to get damage onto a wave at no risk to the champion. If last hitting is removed entirely then the early phase becomes very pointless as carries have no reason to sit and leech resources while bullies can't try to kill carries because the carries will refuse to enter any area where they can be attacked.
Freezing a lane is the most essential skill to learn to grow in elo. You can't just shove lanes by attacking minions. Take time to learn when it is okay to push and when its okay just to last hit. If you're having trouble learning this management skill wait for the training program to come :)
Or you could just last hit normally.
