Akali Rework: The Twin Disciplines
So I have always been interested in champions and their functions. I have created my own concepts and am currently aspiring to become a game designer myself. My goal is to one day work for a company developing characters for people to enjoy and play. So I have challenged myself to try an work on characters I feel could use some love. To either rework their kit completely or change basic concepts that would make them more viable. Please comment and let me know what you think. While this is just for fun, it is also a way for me to expand my skill level. So lets get started.
Akali Kit Review Akali was originally one of the few unique champions in league that was designed as a hybrid character. While she benefits from both AD and AP it quickly became apparent to many that Akali had more potential building straight AP rather than AD. As such she became the AP assassin she is now. While her kit is effective, she lacks synergy with her design that causes parts of her design to fall off. While this isn't a serious problem I believe changing some core designs could really bring her back to life. So lets check it out.
Akali Kit Rework
- Passive: Twin Disciplines _Discipline of Force: Akali's basic attacks deal 6% 「 (+ 1% per 6 AP) 」「 (+ 16.667% per 100 AP) 」 of her AD as bonus on-hit magic damage. _
_ Discipline of Might: Discipline of Might: Akali permanently has 6% 「 (+ 1% per 6 bonus AD) 」「 (+ 16.667% per 100 bonus AD) 」 spell vamp_
Before her many reworks, Akali's original thought process was in my opinion aimed at making her a hybrid champion. However with the lack of available hybrid items and a magic based kit design I believe she was fated to become a primary AP assassin. By maximizing both these passive abilities Akali could benefit from building bot AP and AD. Yet the spell vamp provides little reason to build AD on Akali.
- (New) Passive: Twin Discipline
Discipline of Yang : _Akali permanently has 6% 「 (+ 1% per 6 AP) 」「 (+ 16.667% per 100 AP) 」as life steal _
Discipline of Yin : Akali's abilities deal 6% 「 (+ 1% per 6 AD) 」「 (+ 16.667% per 100 AD) 」 of her AD as bonus on-hit magic damage.
So in conclusion you now have a passive that benefits proper sustain based on AP scaling, and a proper on hit effect based on AD scaling. The more AP you build the more effective your life steal is. The more AD you build the harder your abilities will hit. The more AP you build the more life steal you will receive. This benefits her more than spell vamp I believe.
- Mark of the Assassin Active: Akali throws her kama at the target unit, dealing magic damage and marking them for 6 seconds. Basic attacks detonate the mark, dealing bonus magic damage and restoring 40 energy.
While this ability is nice it focuses on magic damage only, which takes away from Akali's hybrid kit design.
- (NEW) Mark of Tao Akali throws her kama at the target unit, dealing magic damage and marking them for 6 seconds. While attacking a marked target Akali gains bonus armor or magic penetration based on her current AD or AP. If Akali's AD is higher than her AP, she recieves X armor penetration against the marked target. If her AP is higher than her AD, she recieves X magic penetration. In addition each basic attack restores 10 energy.
So here we have a mark that grants bonus armor pen or magic pen based on which ever damage stat is higher. So if you prioritize AD, you will benefit from the mark now. If you build AP you will benefit from the mark. This way she has build options, but only benefits from the stronger of the two if you go hybrid. I was however caught between the armor pen for the AD idea or just attack speed. I feel like she could benefit from Attack speed more, but for now its just penetration.
Crescent Strike Would stay the same as it deals physical damage and is based on AD or AP. I would just have it balance equally based on both.
Twilight Shroud This would stay the same.
Shadow Dance I would say should deal damage based on whichever of the two values is higher AD or AP. This way she could benefit from the best of either. If you build her hybrid, then whichever stat you build higher would be her priority damage.
Conclusion: The final idea here is to make Akali an assassin that can utilize both AD and AP. The balance between both would be key to making her strong. It could also be able to build her in a single direction and still be competitive. However, if hybrid builds are too difficult to achieve this kit could be tailored to prioritize builds with a single focus damage stat. Anyways let me know what guys think... overall not big changes. Just a fix to her Passive and Mark to better reinforce her hybrid and off build nature.
