AFKs making less of an impact on Ranked

While many of us face the challenge of remaining in an already dead game adding salt to the wound is the notorious AFK. While in normal games it may not seem as important to win, but ranked is of course important to at least 90% of the community. Therefore I'm going to open an idea where in the event of an intentional/unintentional AFK there would be a less severe consequence for the team the AFKer is on.

How this would work -

The person playing Thresh AFKs and is gone for 5 minutes after it reads them as AFK. Immediately the system would notice this and provide a small cushion for that person's teammates causing them to lose less LP if they loss the game, while if they win it they would gain the normal amount. The opposing team would gain 10% less LP if the game is less than 40 minutes. If beyond the 40 minute mark they would gain their normal amount of LP. The AFK would lose their normal LP amount and any subsequent consequences.

Pros:

  • The team with the AFK would be hit less LP wise
  • Should the opposing team decide to stall they face the chance of their opponents scaling and coming back, winning the game
  • The AFK would be punished more severely than their teammates

Cons:

  • The system could be abused by both sides
  • Not all people intentionally AFK

Thoughts on this idea and any critique on my own is appreciated.

This idea has been proposed in the past and just has too many holes to work.

The biggest one is the potential abuse. Duoing with someone who would intentionally AFK if they were losing. Or straight up harassing a person on your team into AFKing. It just brings more problems than it solves.
