Let's have an honest discussion about autofill

Okay. So it might be a bit late to jump on this topic now, but having lived with autofill for a while I figure now is as good a time as any to talk about it.

I've seen a lot of people complaining about it, saying it's "the worst thing ever" and other things that people on the internet say when they don't like something. I have seen one or two people out there who say that it doesn't really matter and that people should just suck it up. But notably I haven't seen anyone actually defend autofill as a positive development for League. Personally I think it's a pretty bad idea, since forcing people into roles they don't want or like just encourages queue dodging, which makes for longer wait times anyway and undoes any potential benefits. But on the other hand I haven't been impacted by it that much since it launched, and have only had to fill a role I didn't want maybe two or three times now.

So, opinions on autofill? Anyone out there actually in favor of it, or is it something Riot should maybe consider scrapping in the near future? And how much has it impacted your games so far?

If they got autofill enabled all the time they may as well just revert to the old system and ditch all this preselect nonsense. At least back then you could argue with your team, where as now you have no power over what position you get assigned to.

It's worse than dynamic queue.

By a lot.

Just to be honest since auto fill was enforced i just don't see the point in picking roles since you may not get your role. Just seems pointless.

It makes some sense in higher elos where you would have 30+ minute queues and most players would have some experience in every role. It makes absolutely no sense in lower elos where you might reduce a 3-4 minute queue to 1-2 minutes. Especially since more people dodge, effectively increasing time in queue.

I honestly like it- I think a lot of the hate (not all, but a lot) is because every single positive effect is nigh invisible, where every negative effect is obvious.

I will tell you what. I haven't won a game as an autofill support yet. I have never played the position before until being forced to with autofill. It only hurts my team playing in a position I'm not comfortable or familiar with.

I mean honestly it "makes sense" with ranked. But why have it with normals? thats my issue.

I like it because I actually enjoy playing support, I just dont like playing it every game so I never queue for it. Its nice to play 1 out of every 15 or so games on an off role
