My Opinion and Analysis on new Aatrox
Having seen all of his abilities on The Reveal Page I have a pretty decent, but at the end of the day personal, point of view about him as a whole. I decided to share all my views and hoped to spark conversations about him and see if people agree or disagree with this, and hopefully hear why they do so.
Well...let's get this behind us:
#Plus Points in Gameplay:
- Aatrox now Operates within a window of opportunity
Unlike his current state, Aatrox now has a certain window of opportunity to use in order to fight, and no longer relies on all out-skirmishes and extended battles only. While that is the one argument that somewhat contra's with his Idea of being this Doombringer-kinda beast of a guy who literally lives within war, It makes his gameplay, by first impression, much more meaningful.
- His Ingame-identity is now clear.
Unlike his current version, His rework now gives him a clear sense of what he is and what he has to do. The Current version encourages back and forth bickering about whether he is an all out fighter, skirmisher, a tank or a diver to the point where people go nuts. Now we clearly see he is a Skirmisher with the touch of a diver.
#Minus Points in Gameplay:
- He appears to suffer less weaknesses.
His kit for a large part still appears to give the feel of his current kit, but giving it a closer look, he seems to have much less weaknesses than before. Namely he can move while his revive is active.
- The Current Meta is the worst time to release him within.
Right now, the Meta are mobility creeps and movement speed steroids. Aatrox will have a substantually hard time getting any popularity in picks considering his slow animations, short Bonus Hitboxes on his Q and his now limited window of opportunity, Meta-slaves like
will make him a very frustrating experience to take in.
#Ethics:
His new design seems to have Ups and downs as well. So, here is my personal opinion on those:
Plus Points:
- Splashart
His new splashart gives him a much more terrifying feeling. He is this massive doomsday-wannabe in a world without a superman, squashing everything in his path and the new art that represents him really succeeds in giving us a closer satisfaction for that feeling.
- His Sword.
Fuck, it looks amazing. It has this great balance of Typical MMO-kinda broadsword combined with a unique touch of color and artistics in it that make it so...IDK what else to say, so satisfying to look at! It just kinda feels different but also kinda doesn't but in a rare sense of the good ways.
Minus Points:
- His Voice
IDK what Riot was thinking but his voice really doesn't fit. The First time i heard it i had a laughing fit, it felt like I was watching a huge, bulky man having a chipmunk voice. It just...feels so wrong and unfitting.
- His Wings.
They, unlike his new Sword, failed the aspect of nostalgia mixed with unique feel. They feel so much worse because they look much more like standart demon wings, unlike his current ones that look like war-banners, which fit the Idea of him being this thing that makes and inspires war.
#Wishes for his Release:
While he has ups and downs, there are also things I personally would like to happen to him before he gets released.
- His Q Bonus Damages
I really hope that none of them will be Percentage Health damages, or if, only let the 3rd one be so, and the 2 previous swings of his Q should be just flat damage stacked ontop of the main damage of the skill. Reason Why is because his Passive is probably already gonna give him a fat chunk of extra damage in forms of % Max Health Damage, and it's proc times drastically decrease with successful hits of the bonus hitbox. Last thing we need is that he can oneshot both my ADC AND my Braum Support in one rotation.
- His Voice
I Really hope that they will improve his voice before sending him out to Live servers. He should have a much deeper, more menacing tone and should talk a little slowed. He feels threatening, so why does he sound adorable?
- His Colors
For the most part, the way he looks right now is okay, But I do hope they add a slight touch of Black to the corners of his Grey bodyparts right where they transcend into red, like they did with rhaast. It would make his appearence more dark, both literally and figuretively.
- His R fear
While his now allowed moving during the Revive is Bullshit in my opinion, it's the passive fearing of Creeps I am mostly worried about. I Really hope the fear is only temporary and procs once then is reapplied upon kills, Like with Darius R who fears creeps for a short time, then can fear them again if he gets another Kill. A Permanent fear of minions just by being near them for the entire R duration may not be broken, but it would make his all out potential during early laning phase one of the strongest in the entire game, so much that it might become a very toxic aspect of balance.
