New Warlord's Bloodlust : Counter to Garen??

Now here me out, i don't mean by taking this you'll magically beat him, but i accidentally took it on Wukong instead of my normal Thunderlord's degree. i went on to buy corrupting potion and 1 doran's blade

And with all these, i actually didn't notice hes passive all too much as i would have before. Normally he just out sustains me and eventually forces me out of lane, but with Warlords, Dorans blade and corrupting potion....i was actually able to trade with him and sustain up just as he would with hes passive.

Could the sustain warlord's bloodlust gives be the counter to Garen?
