How does the minimap displaying the honeyfruit work?

I look at the minimap. There is a green point in the fog of war at the river. I walk there and i see the honeyfruit was already used. The minimap updates, now it's a grey point. Another time i walk down the river and a honeyfruit appears. It was not displayed on the minimap earlier.

I don't get how this works can someone help please?
