Dynamic queue is part to riot's plan to attract new and younger players and ignoring the older ones

Things that I have noticed:

  1. Dynamic queue remained in place after major backlash from the solo players of the community.
  2. A surge of League of Legends Ads lately
  3. Gradual removal of blood and cigarettes so that the game is playable younger generation
  4. Hextech system release with higher chances of obtaining keys when playing with "friends"
  5. The recent art updates to make the game more visually appealing

Riot's current target are those still in grade school, kids talk more about games then adults and bring are more likely to bring in their friends. They brag a lot more and with how easy it is to boost someone out of bronze now, these kids will get to like silver and brags about it causing other kids to want to join in. Riot want kids to grow up playing league of legends like a sport, so they have to make the game playable and promote it for the younger generation.

Older players are not likely to have friends playing on online game with them. A lot of older players are playing the game by themselves as solo players. Riot is making the decision to ignore them, because if they succeed in making the children of the future addicted to the game, they will make way more money in the long run. These kids will spend money earlier in their life on games and continue to spend on it growing up. Riot is planning way ahead into the future.

TLDR: Riot's plan is to control the new generation. They want to control the future and make an empire of LOL-playing kids. They want children to gather friends to play the game young, continue playing and spending on the game as they grow old.

This is their "ideal" world, but their plan might fail so that is why they can't dismiss solo queue's return entirely yet.

In the Riot pls segment, under "The Vision" that Riot has in bolded words.

> We want League of Legends to become a global sport that lasts for generations

and

> Imagine growing up with League the same way others have grown up with [other sports]

additionally, something else that they admitted to was

> As we stack-rank our development priorities, we’ve had to be honest with ourselves in making hard decisions about things we aren’t prioritizing.

Riot is Prioritizing the younger generation and getting them to see the game as a sport. It will benefit them much more in the long run like an investment. They are prioritizing it over solo players, over high elo players as well as those who likes dominion or smaller game modes.

I am personally interested to see if their plan will succeed or not, it might be the best thing that ever happened or the worse, or nothing will happen at all and they fail.

Bring back solo queue

I wouldn't say younger players as I'm sixteen and have been playing League since S3.

I hope that if they fail (which they probably wont) that they could return to the Riot that I know, though they would probably try harder.

BTW, They're even making new champions more mobile, more forgiving to mistakes, letting them defy normal game mechanics, and give them more outplay potential without raising the skill floor. That is something you would do for new players...Ironic.

Solo queue players helped Riot make LoL what it is today. Thanks of the competitive scene, it has grown so much. In my opinion, a good game is when it is noob friendly but still requires skill at high levels. I have seen how WoW went from hardcore to casual, and look where its at now. Diablo 3 went casual, and it failed.

The problem is when after a company which has developed a product with love, starts growing and ultimately falls into greediness. It's so sad to see how these companies I once rooted for, tell me that I don't want features, because they know better. Arrogant and cocky developers =/

I agree with your data and analysis, but not your conclusion. This is basic marketing. League of Legends is not ignoring the fan-base that they have, they are simply marketing to a broader fan-base. That said, I will say that League is changing. Change is inevitable, the question is: why don't you like it? I love dynamic queue, because since I've begun playing I've almost exclusively played with friends. (And I think it's generally a ton cleaner and neater.) League is a community game for me, and I see no reason for that not to be the focus. After all, it is multiplayer. But I am still curious: what made you feel neglected by Riot? I'd be interested to know.

Kids, no. Casuals, yes.

League's always had a younger playerbase and this is nothing new. A lot of the "Wow I never play league anymore I'm actually doing work lol thanks for making the game bad Rito" isn't about the game being bad, it's about being an adult and having actual responsibilities you can't shirk. In high school? Yeah, played the shit out of league and skipped homework. Now? I have college work and that's not something I'm willing to slack on.

Dynamic queue isn't appealing to kids, it's appealing to casual players. Say what you will but it's pretty clear that they would have reverted it if it wasn't working better for the larger playerbase. And league, by and large, has always had a largely casual playerbase. Pros may dislike it, solo queue vets may dislike it but I'm willing to bet that a huge chunk of players actually prefer it. And of course the whole boards/reddit stigma of "We represent the entire community" when they present about <1 mil players on the NA side combined.

This is something a lot of Marketing Business Grads already know. I'm quoting myself here when I say

I haven't spent any money at all.

However the reason why Riot doesn't give a shit is because their numbers are coming from young teenagers now who are put onto computers at a very young age. They are actually bringing in a lot of young teens who are in elementary school etc and getting them to market "HEY GUYS COME I NEED FRIENDS FOR DYNAMIC Q" and open mommys and daddys wallet.

That's what Riot is doing. They've screwed us (the young adults) over for the pre-teens/next generation of gamers. Basically they are saying to us. Sorry Grandfather'd players who help this game become what it is.

However we've taken enough of your money that we don't need you anymore and we can move on without you.

That is the sad reality of it.

Also statistically speaking. Riot makes more money from people playing in groups rather than alone. When you're playing in a group, you're more likely to spend money on the game to show off visually upgrades than against strangers (wow man you have THAT skin, SO cool) it's a pure marketing/e-commerce ploy. I've talked about this many many times, but if people think this isn't about the company's bottom line must not be too well versed in business.

The sad part is, now all older players feel shafted and betrayed by League, and I'm not only talking adults, even 16yr olds playing this game for seasons. I have stopped supporting Riot, switched games(playing Overwatch now ) and will never support such a crook company ever again.

On a side note, remember that one future that we all forgot about that they promised would be out right after New Year and immediately after the New Champ select that WOULD ACTUALLY HELP THE COMMUNITY BUT WONT MAKE MONEY? (TRIBUNAL )

Where the fuck is that eh? No where, they don't give a shit about you guys, they are paid to make money.

Disregarding the fact that League of Legends has always been targeted towards teenagers and young adults, and the fact that the blood and tobacco removals have been for more the licensing in more conservative countries like Turkey, why is it bad that they want to keep their game alive?

My own two cents:

  1. I suppose that I have seen both sides of the fence on this one. As part of a frequently 4-man team, I generally enjoy dynamic queue. We're pretty good to our 5th man and the team dynamic definitely wins a lot more games. That being said, I do play solo sometimes. I have been lumped in with some of the nastier teams out there, who seem to dictate and hate everything I do, just for being the odd man out. Hell, I've REPORTED entire groups. (Hoping Riot does look at those, but...)

  2. Even in my own timeline of playing (since S3), League has grown significantly in size and revenue since it started out. Which means they can actually afford to advertise. For any online game, bringing in new blood is vital. If they don't, the game will slowly decay and die. It's just a reality for games like these. If the older players can't move on with the newer ones, then maybe it's time for them to find another game.

  3. We are also growing more and more into a society where everyone is terrified to offend each other. If you tell me that you're surprised that Riot has to accommodate it, I will straight up laugh.

  4. I don't actually have too much to argue with on this at this point: it is a little rigged. That being said, I still wouldn't complain about potential freebies.

  5. What's wrong with updating an old game to look new again? It's kind of nice to see that Riot hasn't forgotten the old champions in the wake of the new. I personally am loving some of the new splashes. For example. Eve's looks amazing.

But, of course, this community is always needs SOMETHING to complain about, doesn't it? Though, this is just verging on the brink of sounding crazy.

If they don't grab a younger generation, the product will die out. Simple economics for a long lasting product. Simply look at cable TV and what's happening to it since it didn't adapt.

kids don't have money and this generation is pretty lazy and unreasonably spoiled, essentially they are just alienating loners with money for kids who don't.
