Any tips for learning to play unlocked camera?

I've only been playing league for about a year now (S4 i missed urf qq), and my friends asked me "do you play locked camera?" I said yes, and they laughed at me for playing locked, saying "that's why you always miss your blitz pulls". I've watched some pros stream, and I've seen that they play unlocked camera. I've heard that it's good to play unlocked so you have better map awareness, or you land land skillshots, etc.

TL;DR: Any tips on how to learn to play league on unlocked camera without feeding hard? [slayer-jinx-wink]

Play bot games until you feel comfortable enough with unlocked camera. Remember you can lock it at any time by holding space.

Well, as a RTS player this is a really hard topic to break for me. I believe it's just one of those things you have get used to. It's really good to have that habit however of hitting space a lot of times during games. It locks your camera on your champion as long as you hold the space button and it's helpful not having to find your champion by scrolling the map.

Coop vs AI is your best friend. When I started playing League, I refused to play with an unlocked camera and then realized that it is very essential to improve your overall gameplay. I think it took me about 1-2 weeks to get used to it.

After tinkering with the keys in the settings, I use my spacebar to automatically lock and unlock the camera while playing because holding the spacebar felt unnatural to me. It's also great for centering the camera on your character whatever you need to. It just takes time and it's completely worth it.

You can just get used to landing skillshots with a locked cam and click the mini-map to get map awareness. I'm a Thresh and Heimerdinger main, so my skillshots are very important to my kit. I just got used to predicting movement with the cam locked. Or you can keep playing bots until you get used to an unlocked cam.

Make sure your mouse sensitivity is high enough, when you need to move the screen you want to be able to flick it around quickly without needing to distract you from actually interacting with things.

It can be a bit unusual to get used to but really the ideal is to be able to literally flick your mouse to the side for just a moment and have the screen move the amount you need.

I just watch the minimap for map awareness, as long as I pay attention I don't need the unlocked camera to see where someone is going. But also just holding down left click on the minimap will zip over there until release, then it'll return to your champion.

I typically try and play with both, flipping back and forth when necessary. I feel like if you just get used to locking and unlocking you'll never be able to live with just one.

There were several things that I found you just have to force yourself to do until you adapt to them. Overall once once down you will be better off overall as a player.

  • Unlocked Camera - I never had this issue but I used to play RTS so I was used to it. But I could certainly see how it compares to learning the other.

  • Leveling up skills with a hotkey being able to put that point into your ult mid fight while already aimed on your opponent makes a huge difference the time it would take to upgrade it manual can be the difference between winning and loosing the fight. Also great for things like the planned lev 2 engage

  • Playing with quickcast (I would recommend quick cast with range indicators, it makes it less of a jump + it helps you get a gauge for the range of abilities on champions you don;t normally play) Overall this just means you can be faster with firing your skill shots, could be the difference in hitting them in the split second their outside of minion coverage and just hitting a minion.
