To all Orianna mains out there...

So I'm a level 23 player thinking about maining Orianna. I want to main her, but I feel like so many mid-lane champs counter her easily such as Heimerdinger and Anivia. Sometimes I play her support or APC. Do you guys only play Orianna mid? Or do you player her in other lanes? If so, what is your play style in those lanes? The only other lane other than mid lane I played with Orianna with mediocre success was in bot lane as a support. What are your opinions about Orianna going APC? In all the games I play, I have never seen APCs (except for once), only ADCs.

I enjoy playing AP mid-laners ( Orianna, Teemo, and Azir). I've tried playing all of them as APCs and the only one that sort of works is Teemo. Why are APCs so rare nowadays? I would really appreciate advice down in the comments. Thanks!

Oh yes she is one of the best champions to main in the entire game. She has almost no hard counters mid lane, she is weak only when the AD assassins are broken (right now :( ) and is kind of bad against Leblanc , Fizz and Ahri but with enough practice you can manage almost any lane in the game. Also please believe me, I am not a meta sheep, but never ever play her bot at all, it just isnt viable and sucks extremely. Play her exclusively mid and with enough practice and play time you will have a reliable champ that can outplay or at least survive any lane matchup, is perfectly balanced so you dont have to worry about high play/ban rate or nerfs for her, she has utlity so you can be useful even if you lost lane but she also packs some damage which can catch all 5 people if you are good enough so you can solo carry the game that way too. I love her and mained her since her release, have around 4000 games on her and I can tell you that you will have a really fun time playing her, at least it was for me. Too bad I am from EUW so I cant help you in the actual game because you will learn much faster with some help since Ori is kind of hard to get used to due to her unique ball mechanic that no other champion has even remotely. Anyway feel free to ask me anything you want to know and I will be happy to help. GL HF :)

Level 6 Orianna with 35k points, she's great mid lane, her problem is dealing with ganks since she doesn't have reliable cc (stuns roots snares) without her ult but you can't rely on your ult everytime you get ganked, most mages do which makes Orianna weird

She has complex skill shots but can zone and harass very well if played right, last hitting minions is good because of her passive. She was super strong around 6.18 but now there are so many "op" mid laners that she struggles against, if she gets out ranged she gets punished pretty bad, but she can fare well in many matchups

i recommend taking her mid since bot lane has been the most unbalanced for a while now, especially with the buff to lethality, and mage supports are good but she works much better mid. If you get fed with Orianna she does massive damage, overall, she's a fun champion that is rewarding once you learn her but she's not a champ you can always play because some matchups are just way too difficult to come out victorious

As for her playstyle, try not to use your spells too often, save it for when you can land your QW and land an auto to proc thunderlords and zone them away from minions. You should focus on farming and go for the QW auto poke whenever they're out of position, if you think they're low enough and you have your spells, go for it, your ult can pull them back and stun them just long enough for you to land everything, if you have your jungler, it's almost a guaranteed kill. Don't forget you can shield you allies or yourself with your E which can save you from poke or the last ticks of ignite, or just to not take so much damage from a turret shot. In lane you wanna max Q, then W, and E last, upgrade R whenever you can of course, as with most ultimates

Some cool tricks with Orianna would be learning to use her utility to her advantage, her W makes a small area which slows her enemies and speeds up you and you allies, if you have your ball on you, use this to run away faster from a gank, pared with summoner 6, you should escape a gank easily. If you get caught however, her ult is super neat, always remember that it can pull people towards it, meaning that if you're gonna die and Lee Sin is on top of you, you can place the ball behind him with Q and quickly R to pull him away from you giving you time to run, a prime example of using your ult for escaping would be this clip of Faker using his ult to pull Jayce away from him, and shielding himself afterwards which allows him to survive the gank, here's the clip :

TL:DR always remember, you have a shield on E, slow/speed up on W, and a pull away on your R, QW auto for thunderlords to win trades, and max in RQWE order, I like to take Flash and Ghost because Ghost is very good for getting out of ganks but Cleanse is always an option if you're against someone like Veigar who you don't wanna get stunned by or else you'll die, best of luck to you on the rift !

I wouldn't say that Anivia counters Orianna, I'd say it's more of a skill match up. Especially when Ori can shield Anivia's E damage and Anivia is the easiest champion for Ori to land her Q>W on due to her being extremely slow with no mobility and also short range as well.

APC Orianna is not the greatest due to itemization being kinda ehh for AA-reliant AP champions. I would avoid it at all cost.

As for other lanes, support Orianna can be a thing, provided you know how to use and abuse her strengths. Her E is loaded with hidden power, adding additional resistances to your ADC to make trading in your team's favor. Never spam QW, at least in the early game, due to it costing a lot of mana unless you are absolutely sure that you could hit them with it. Just Q harass and leave the ball around the lane to zone them. I also build her AP after Sightstone, as she works better with AP and doesn't require too much support items due to the utility in her kit (although, I build Athene's at times, if I feel my team could use the healing). Support Orianna works best if your ADC has an escape and you have at least 1 diving-type champion in the other 3 roles for wombo combo E->R->W for massive damage.

Heim and Anivia are skill matchups for Orianna, as they are all control-types, so it's up to yourself to be able to beat your lane opponent. However, Orianna is built to survive pretty well from the utility in her kit, so if worse comes to worst, you can just play defensive. Orianna's early game isn't the greatest anyways, so playing safe is a good option.

play oriana as ADC or jungle, max E first, thank me later

why does anivia counter orianna??? pretty much every mage matchup is a skill matchup, it's the assassins you have to worry about

Your E travels much faster than your Q. If you need that ball to travel a long distance quickly set up the field to use E first then Q if necessary for further repositioning.

Also remember that ori is one of the few mages who can cast abilities and move at the same time which is extremely powerful since you won't be vulnerable while casting. Learn to dodge your opponents abilities while they are stuck in their animations while simultaneously countering them with yours.

Also using Ori as an APC is extremely powerful and is definitely viable but it is pretty difficult since you need to put yourself in more danger to get the most use out of your auto attacks. If you can do it then great but it might not be best for every game either.
