Draven - not worth the risk for that low reward (proposed changes & QoL buffs)
TL;DR: TL;DR: weak ability scaling discussion & QoL buff below.
TL;DR: Draven's abilities' scaling feel super lackluster and would need some attention. Proposed small Quality of Life buffs that won't affect much yet they make a ton of sense for him to recieve.
I like Draven, I like to think that I'm a bit good with him, and I mained him in Season 3. But now that I am in "high" elo, I really notice all his extreme weaknesses. He has no comeback. He needs to be ahead in lane to be relevant, and he can't even go even, because then why would you have Draven over any other ADC?
Other than that, he has really long basic cooldowns for a marksman, and for him to actually have any abilities to use over short fights means that he have to spend extreme amounts of focus on catching axes. Without them he suddenly has a low damage output and no speed boost from his W other than every 12 seconds.
I wouldn't want any big buffs, as he's almost fine like he is right now, but picking him if you aren't willing to risk your life to catch axes in awful positions (not all AA's are perfect) would be a mistake, because there are a lot of safe ADCs that can do his job better.
Proposed changes:
Blood Rush (W):
- Increased speed duration from 1.5s to 2s.
- Increased the attack speed from 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40% to 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 / 60%, which at rank 5 is the same number as the movement speed you gain.
- Mana cost increased to 75.
- (NEW) Passive: Catching 3 axes in a row over 6 seconds (every caught axe refreshes the window until the passive takes effect or time pass out) will reduce the cost of Blood Rush by 10 / 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 mana for 5 seconds which will refresh its duration every time an axe is caught in succession. It has an internal 4-second timeout every time that this effect runs out, which means that catching axes during this gray-time will not count towards the proc.
(PRIORITY/QoL buffs) Whirling Death (R):
- Mana cost reduced to 100 from 120
- Whirling Death will now ALWAYS return to Draven, even if he die before the axes have begun their return to him.
Even though I have no idea of Riot's point of view on Draven, I still stand by my opinions on his state. He has a "steady" winrate of ~52% which goes up and down. But even so, he's just strong as a mastered champion. Because he's pretty much a unique champion in terms of playstyle, primarily the dedicated good players can do wonders with him. But that doesn't change how he currently is as a champion. A really weak champion if he's not ahead by lane phase, which proves extremly accurate as he's one of the riskiest champions in the game.
I proposed some buffs, and maybe they're not really necessary, because not everyone would agree on his scaling being just the worst. You're counting on your gold and items to make you strong, not to level your abilities. And when it comes to items, he's pretty much forced to build a ton of AD before even concidering an expensive attack speed item, due to his ratios. And his W doesn't give him much comfort on that front, as it's easily overlooked. He can definately be improved and changed at this point, and he needs it a bit as his kit feels lackluster in many ways, but primarily his abilities feel so unchanged by leveling them up, even his Q is just AD/scale and cooldown changed per level.
But you can ignore everything in this post, as long as you check the QoL buffs to his R. As a risky champion, I have died with him a lot of times after just sent out my ultimate, and counting on it to return. Which it never does unless it's already begun its return as I die. Every other champions with simillar ability mechanics have them return to him, so just because it's an ultimate it shouldn't? Just think about it for a second.
This probably won't rally much attention, or even any reason for a Rioter to notice how right I could be on any point, or just the QoL changes THAT HE REALLY NEED.
Thank you for reading, I may not respond super much as these kinds of post usually drain a lot of energy when it comes to discussion views and opinions.
