Tips for Braum?

Hey there! I just tried out my first match with Braum and it didn't go well. Aside from the jackass of a Rengar that lost us the match by powerfarming instead of ganking literally ever, I found that I had a lot of issues holding up during the early game. It seemed that I was taking insane amounts of harass from the enemy Kalista and Thresh, and my health was disappearing like crazy. It really hindered me and it felt like I couldn't do my job and protect my own Kalista. I also started having issues during teamfights with getting his W to jump to the right person, or trying to get my E to line up at the right angle and neither of those ever seemed to happen. More often than not the E was at JUUUST the wrong positioning, and when I'd try to W to allies they would be just out of range so I'd end up walking in some random direction from the autopathing mechanics and getting absolutely destroyed because that was exactly what the enemy needed to collapse in on me.

I'm not a support main, it's actually my weakest role, so outside of Thresh I'm not too good at the role in all honesty. My Thresh is pretty spot on, but he's the only one and I'd like to get better with supporting.

I took 0/21/9 masteries, and my runes were AS Quints and AD marks, which I hoped would help me get passive stuns off quicker and deal a bit extra damage to enemies, and then armor seals and MR/level quints.

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I feel like Braum has so much potential but I just wasn't able to grasp hold of it.

Plus everything he says is pure gold. I can't NOT play him.

Only run AS red and get pure defensive runes for the rest. Armor Quints with HP/Lvl yellows is pretty good if you want even resists but you can put any defensive runes into the quints spot. They are pretty versatile like that.

Man things to do when playing Braum

  1. Prioritize who you mark with passive. If nobody's bothering your carry try to mark multiple people. If they are try to complete the stun as fast as you can.

  2. Sometime you'll want to hold onto E in order to get the full damage block sometimes. I.E. The Jinx ult you know is coming.

  3. Get creative with W. You have using it to get in range and defensive uses. Your reactions make all the difference.

  4. Getting people with the knockup around you is better than the knockup field, just make sure the slow is in the right spot.

  5. You can max E if you think your carry is good enough to not need extra damage.

I will give you a few simple tips, that you probably already knew, but still...

You MUST play with your E in smartcast. In order to block high priority abilities, you need to be able to cast it as soon as you can without aiming. Its a bit like Yasuo's W.

Then there is also the surprise combo of W to a minion in the front line then Q and auto-attack on the squishiest enemy you can get. This way, assuming you got two stacks of your passive, your ADC can probably proc the other two thanks to the slow. (I recommend a Lucian to instantly stun then with his passive.)

Your ult moves very slowly, so your best bet is probably casting it while in the middle of a few champions to make sure they don't dodge it.

Sometimes, building attack speed is very powerful

Your E lets you catch up with your enemies and lets you land your Qs more easily thanks to the movespeed buff

Shoot for the 40% CDR. Late game, your shield has a 10 second cooldown. With the 40% CDR, it has a 6 second cooldown, and it lasts for 4 seconds, meaning you only have truly 2 seconds without your shield. If that isn't strong, I don't know what is. Don't get baited, though. Maybe Frozen Heart, Face of the Mountain and a Visage/Zephyr if you are ahead?

summoner 31 Good luck!

Braum is hilarious and fun to play. I never get to play him enough.

For laning phase as support, I have a very specific page I use for tanks. It's armor marks, armor seals, magic resist glyphs, and hp regen quints. If you have problems with poke, this will help a LOT. You will be beefy and can laugh off any poke as you regen and get the hp back from your relic shield.

Not that you want to be in the way of poke all the time, of course. Poke is a great way to limit Braum's activities, so you need to hang back and throw out Q's when you can. There are some good tricks already stated like using W on a minion to get close to the enemy to Q, AA, but you don't always need to do that. Braum is great at screwing up the enemy if they engage on you/your team, and just slightly weaker at initiating.

If poke is giving you a hard time, put that shield up as you go to last hit for relic, or whenever you are trying to initiate. It's also good to save the shield in teamfights to completely nullify ults from champions like Nami/Miss Fortune/Lucian etc.

In lane I mostly focus on spamming Q to wear them down. I don't worry about auto attacking them at all, because you will just take too much harass. Rely on your ADC to follow up. Of course the exception is if you're going all-in or have a jungler gank. Then get all up in their faces and punch them.

My general tactic for his ult is not to initiate usually, unless the enemy is in a narrow path and he can't avoid it. Otherwise it's amazing for peeling/disengaging especially if you are right next to your ADC. You want to focus on hitting the knockup around Braum himself (so get right into the enemy), and extending the fissure into the general area of the fight. You can also wait for a fight to start and throw it into the middle to cause some chaos.

It helps if you build Randuin Omen so you can activate the slow to keep the enemies from running, plus reducing their aspd if they try to retaliate. I always build him full tank and don't get any aspd at all.
