Damn im tilted with this champ, its so simple, its no missing anything, no mana, regen as passive, CD Only, Physical damage, True damage, armor/magic resist, Hp, i mean ,wtf does counter him , i Main illaoi, didnt work, i played kled, didnt work, played sion, outfarmed with hes E, played VAYNE top lane, not enough...i mean, god i need help this champ is a nightmare. im banning him, but Jax is a bigger problem right now.[sg-ahri-1]
The only counter is to play better? Garen is a tough champ to play. Trust me I play him a lot. If you poke and dodge you will win. Also the true damage is gimmicky at best and should not be too difficult to deal with.
Legit just Poke and avoid him, all you have to do.

yes.
if you lost with vayne against garen in lane, you fucked up. your lane mechanics like wave control, recall timings, warding, csing and roaming are probably terrible. or you dont know how to space yourself out and just tumbled into him like an idiot.
garen can get 3 or 4 kills on vayne fed to him by his jungler and is still going to be pressured and bullied out of lane by her, because he cant make a play on a mobile ranged champion with a point and click disengage.
vayne is literally an impossible matchup for garen. like they way you messed up must be beyond words.
Play safe early, farm, outscale.
CPot + biscuits + tonic
Any top that auto's (His silence can't interrupt autos) as their main damage output and can keep garen in extended trades that they win should be really good
Or ranged so they can harass his passive and keep him low
Also try letting garen push the wave to you and farm under tower as something like 
or anything and call your jungler. He's vulnerable to cc in lane (Before he gets all that tenacity)!
Also buying MR when you're not the Villain (His ult deals magic damage to non villain targets) isn't a bad idea! null magic builds into merc treads!
Stay near your minions. His Q draws minion aggro, and his E both does less damage and pushes the lane. In either case he draws minion aggro which pushes the lane. And then you use that to your trade advantage + then get to retreat and safe farm under tower. Ask for ganks.
Not really.
The only real counterplay to him is to either out-stat him (a few champions, especially those with innate sustain, can do so fairly easily) or kite him to death. That, or just wait until late-game then beat him then.
if you're a melee you pretty much auto lose early game as well as when he has his passive on you.
you could leave him 0-3 but because his passive was designed by clueless people who have no clue what playing bad should result in, you get to have a chance at 1v1ing the laner and coming back for doing nothing but using your point and click kit.
he was never a problem until they buffed his q.
Not sure how high an elo you can pull it off with but something like

with grasp build seems to be pretty decent. You could sub in triforce for the bork too. Don't build in that exact order... just those items or similar items which can be subbed in for them. Watch your spam early so you don't go oom. Save abilities mostly for after garen's w wears off for max damage.
It also ruins the day of BAD urgot players who only pick it cuz "meta champ" if you can afford to run ghost. Although your build will differ:

You try to get 3+ stacks up and cut off his retreat path/walk even with him. Then and only then do you use your q - if you use it before he uses his throw you won't get the healing and he will win the trade. Reach 5 stacks at relatively same hp as him... he dies.
The best part about this is that you can do decently at it in gold or lower even if you aren't a great darius player - hence why it works for me lol.
simple, you preemptively flash away before he hits you with a q so you dont get silenced into the one shot, fucking riot are such retards (and thats the nicest way to put it)

Yeah there's "no counterplay" to Garen. Garen. This board is truly special
These have all worked for me. They can all avoid or negate his Q, then he does no damage.

Bud many champs are just plain brutal to fight against as Garen, Mundo, Cho'Gath, Teemo, Ahri, Darius, Yi, Urgot.
I do not feel like he is OP at all, His healing is very lackluster until level 11, so his lane sustain is minimal. His E barely helps at all, and his Ultimate is really a joke, because it is literally only able to deal damage after you have essentially won.
Yeah Q does a ton of damage, BUT only after I get Triforce. If I do not have Triforce it is a joke that people would tank all day everyday. If the Garren is using his E on you, just make him hit multiple targets and you take 33% less damage. Which turns it again into a joke of a skill.
Get something that slows him down on hit, and you win, Get something that stuns him, And you win. It is not a broken champ.
To clarify THE ONLY DAMAGE a Garen has is Q(and only with triforce), The execute is a gimmick and it is much less effective damage/range wise than any other execute in the game. Literally 1/3rd the damage and range of any other execute.
Literally Demacian Justice's Only role is as a last ditch effort to end a threat.
You know I am beginning to feel like this is some sort of Psy Op to drag peoples attention away from actually broken champs.....
Tell you what Garen is one of the cheapest champs in game. Play him for 15 games and figure it out. You will realize just how difficult a champ he is to play effectively when your opponents are decent skill levels.
I actually lost with him but only because I had no team. That damage he has is crazy. I was mid vs LB and got 5 kills before my top and bot lost and enemy team kited me easily with LB blinks, vayne E, thresh QER and Pyke QWE.
But yeah if enemy doesn't have so much cc its basically free win. He dealt 3k dmg to me last game with QERignite.
