Zyra's possible passive change -rework poll?

Zyra is a really fun and versatile champion to play, yet her passive doesn't offer much to any situation. It feels like it was thrown in out of spite.

Does zyra need a buff/nerf? maybe, maybe not. But I do believe she can be fine tuned as this plant fighting mage.

Her roll and what the balance team tries to strive for is diversity in champions and clarification on exactly who they are.

When picking zyra, i want to think and feel that i'm picking this plant mage that can only reach her full potential with her plants involved in the fight. Her main concept is plants. - So in my opinion I think we should strive for it to be more specific in that. For example, her passive Rise Of Thorns: When Zyra dies, she briefly returns to her plant form. After 2 seconds, she can press any ability to fire a thorn toward her cursor, dealing true damage to each enemy it strikes.

I feel like this can be changed to benefit her plants instead of rising in her plant form which doesn't really make sense when reading the lore (i could be wrong, just my interpretation of it).

If the focus is to make her a plant mage, I think her passive should be changed to support that like.... for example...

Rise of Thorns: Zyra has an aoe effect around her, when she is near her plants they feed off of her nearby roots giving her thorns and vines bonus abilities based on skill point level. Zyra also gets increased health regen and ability power when she is near her plants, stacking - a single plant will also heal 1 tick every 3 seconds, heals the lowest plant in range. If Zyra dies, her plants wilt and die instantly. If zyra's plants (not seeds) are outside of her range of Rise of Thorns, they begin to slowly decompose, losing 1 tick every 5 seconds.

Deadly Bloom: Zyra grows a bud at target location. After a brief delay, it explodes, launching damaging thorns at all nearby enemies. If cast upon a seed, Deadly Bloom grows a Thorn Spitter plant, which fires at enemies from afar. (update: ap ratio reduced greatly to help compensate for thorn spitter damage) (update) -Range slightly increased and deadly bloom damage greatly reduced- with each additional point leveled, thorn spitters increase their attack range and magic damage by 35/70/105/140/175 when benefiting from Rise of Thorns. Thorn spitters attacks fragment on impact and deal splash damage for a portion of the damage dealt. Thorn Spitters tick life = 1/2/3/4/5 based on level.

keep in mind that her plants would only get this passive when she is near them. I'm not sure what area or aura her passive would be yet but it helps emphasize her on her focus. I believe this change would help her be more classified as a plant mage. I'm not sure on numbers but I think that her damage should be moved from her q to her plant q so that she has to be more careful when and where to plant her seeds making her more reliable with plants but vulnerable without seeds. Increasing the range on q has one sole purpose - to plant seeds further away, however, if planted too far away, the plants do not get the bonus damage or range and also lose life as per passive. If she does not plant a seed, the damage from her deadly bloom will be anything but impactful.

Rampant Growth: Zyra plants a seed, granting vision of an area for up to 30 seconds. Other spells cast on seeds will turn them into plants, who fight for Zyra. Additionally passively grants her Cooldown Reduction. Active: Plants a seed, lasting 30 seconds. If an enemy Champion steps on a seed, it will be destroyed but they will be revealed for 2 seconds. Zyra stores a seed every 17/16/15/14/13 seconds (Max: 2 seeds stored, 4 seeds planted). Rampant Growth: Cast spells on seeds to grow plants. Plant damage is based on Zyra's level. Extra plants striking the same target deal 50% less damage.

(update) -Range slightly increased, zyra starts with a free point in Rampant growth (can be leveled up 5 more times, regularly)- Zyra stores a seed every 15/14/13/12/11/10 (Max: 3 seeds stored, 5 seeds planted) Global Cooldown on planting seeds is 1.0 second. This will help balance zyra that she will not rapid tap w as fast as she can with one q to get 3 thorn spitters. Only with planning and good timing on both of her abilities will she truly get the full potential of her plants. Zyra fills with rage and gets increased movement speed 10/20/30/40/50% that decays over 1.5 seconds? when heading towards the enemy champion who stepped on her seedlings and triggers an increased global cooldown on planting seeds (1.5 seconds). Also, when an enemy champion steps on a seed, other plants feel it's pain and are stunned for 0.5 seconds - Are you sure you want to try to step on her seeds? high risk high reward.

Grasping Roots:

Zyra sends forth vines through the ground to ensnare her target, dealing damage and rooting enemies they come across. If cast upon a seed, Grasping Roots grows a Vine Lasher, whose short range attacks reduce enemy Movement Speed.

Sends forward vines dealing 60/95/130/165/200 (+50% Ability Power) magic damage and rooting enemies for 0.75/1/1.25/1.5/1.75 second. Rampant Growth: If Grasping Roots hits a seed, a Vine Lasher grows dealing 23 + (6.5 × level) (+20% Ability Power) magic damage and slowing enemies by 30% for 2 seconds. A Vine Lasher has 400 range and lasts 10 seconds.

(update) Missle speed slightly increased and damage greatly reduced, roots enemies for 1.0/1.2/1.4/1.6/1.8. . 0.75 second for a root is barely anything for her plants to even get a hold. if she roots someone and manages to get a vine lasher, it should get two hits off at least. Keep in mind that this ability alone wont do any damage - only when her plants are present. with each additional point leveled, vine lasher increases their slow by 15/30/45/50/65% for 2 seconds and reducing enemies attack speed by 15/30/45/50/65% when benefiting from Rise of Thorns. Vine Lasher attack range SLIGHTLY increased and the attacks pierce enemies and hits units behind them only slowing the movement speed but not dealing damage or reducing attack speed. Vine Lasher tick life = 1/2/3/4/5 based on level.

With this change, zyra ONLY gets the slow from her plants when she is in range of them. A slight increase on mainly just the initial point of the root to have at least some impact on landing the ability will help early game. This doesn't help zyra in any way when she is fleeing because she cannot slow enemies if she runs too far away from her plants or simply plants a seed at the max range of her grasping roots.

Stranglethorns:

Zyra summons a twisted thicket at her target location, dealing damage to enemies as it expands and knocking them airborne as it contracts.

Summons the fury of nature, growing a twisted thicket at target location which deals 180/265/350 (+70% Ability Power) magic damage to all enemies in the area as it expands. After 2 seconds, the vines snap upward knocking enemies into the air. Rampant Growth: Plants within the thicket are enraged, increasing their Attack Speed by 50%.

(update/rework) no instant damage, diameter slightly decreased. Zyra summons the fury of nature, growing a twisted thicket and poison ivy at her target location, expanding and dealing a damage over time poison equal to 2.5% of their current life every second as magic damage for 3 seconds (lasts 5 seconds). Any seedlings planted in this area are IMMEDIATELY VULNERABLE and can be stepped on instantly for the duration of the poison. As it contracts, it knocks enemies up and pulls them towards the center a set distance. A stranglethorn venus plant rises from the center of the area, as well as any seeds that have not been grown and grabs the nearest enemy champion within a certain range and stuns them for 1.0 seconds. Deals 10/15/20% of their maximum life as true damage (damage ticks every 0.33 seconds). Venus plant has tick life of 2/3/4 and dies after spitting out a champion. Damage can be prevented by destroying the plant early. Enemy champions can only be grabbed once by the venus plant. Zyra's vine lashers and thorn splitters are enraged within the thicket and increase their attack speed by 50% for 1.0 seconds and can be increased if zyras plants are affected by Rise of Thorns (passive).

At first when reading this it seems like the numbers will have to be changed - I don't know how impactful the venus plant will be in team fights, if you can even get that many plants in there - REMEMBER THE GLOBAL COOLDOWN of 1.0 SECONDS ON SEEDLINGS AND THE TRIGGER OF THE GLOBAL COOLDOWN OF 1.5 SECONDS WHEN A SEEDLING IS STEPPED ON. ALSO IF THERE IS A SEED THAT ZYRA PLANTED TOO LATE OR SIMPLY MISPLACED, YOU CAN STEP ON IT AND STUN ALL!! OF THE PLANTS FOR 0.5 SECONDS. Zyra is about to cast ult? step on a seed or use a quick flash on a seed and make sure she doesnt plant any more monsters. Also keep in mind of the plant initial life loss if zyra isnt close to her plants to be affected by her passive - Rise of Thorns. With zyra being able to get additional venus plants, they have to be more vulnerable and if zyra isnt careful enough with planting they can be stepped on ASAP. So champions with movement abilites will be able to destroy plants quickly and this affects all of her plants keep in mind.

Oh crap, zyra casted her ultimate while she was too low? just kill her - If Zyra dies, her plants wilt and die instantly.

The numbers are very rough, i just think zyra has so much potential to be exactly that: strictly a plant mage that only really does damage with her plants.

What are your guys' thoughts?

Thank you very much for the consideration and long read.

Regards.

Possible passive changes and improved plant AI should be a start.

I think the plant AI alone will help her tremendously. Her movement speed could be amped up just a touch aswell.

Other than that, I don't think she needs a lot of changes.

she maybe doesnt need all the changes i've listed but at least change her passive to benefit her plants. Doesn't have to be the way I have mentioned it but change it in some way that brings her plants more purpose and meaning to a fight.

Zyra and Koggy both need new Innates.

I don't want her at mid. She is suited for bottom

She just doesn't feel like a plant mage the way she is set up now. she feels like a hybrid between a burst mage and a plant mage.
