Supports arent APC

So im not blasting at you riot and im not coming here to ask for advice, simply spewing my opinion. In my opinion supports shouldn't be a mid laner. I always see either a lux, or morgana, or annie, or litterally and APC with the slightest bit of CC is a support. All they do is build that frost queens thing and go full AP. I'm not saying its broken or op or whatever. Im just saying in my opinion thats not how the support role should be played. I know ill probably get a lot of hate for this and i also know there is nothing riot can do...BUTT thats my opinion and have a good day

Define support. Someone who assists you The reason so many supports are building like carrys is because they are tired of their ADCs not following up engagements properly, not playing properly, or being non-present in the game.

The problem isnt the supports

Its the influx of shitty carrys across the board

No one enjoys being a support with carrys who cant carry even though every game people spam call top mid and ADC like they are gonna actually not suck, then turn out being terrible

PS im a jungle main not a support, but ill still defend my carry supports all day long

Lol let's restrict role choices even more!

We are already forced to take at least one ranged AD champion on EVERY GAME and most of the time a tanky champion is kind of a must have, now lets force supports to be only taken by champions with no damage!

Can we not xd

If it works, let it be. If it's unhealthy for the game or making games unfair than it should be changed. But for now the only problem with a mage going support from time to time is some ppl playing bot lane getting annoyed because they are not used to that.

Well the roles themselves aren't inherent to the game, they're just what evolved to be the meta.

If having a mini-APC happens to work out, that's great. If having a mobile utility bot works better, all the greater. I'm generally of the opinion the latter does work better, so if I see an enemy sup opt for the mini-APC route than I generally feel like I have an advantage. Presumably everyone is playing to win, so if a support is building AP rather than utility items, then they probably genuinely believe that offers them the best chance to bring the team to victory.

Some supports get enough utility out of their base kit that they can pretty much build however and it won't matter. Others actually do get increased utility out of AP, and so go full ap for utilities sake. In the long run those with the best strategies will trend upwards in the ranks though, while the sub par strategies will sink lower, so if you feel you know best, then you can be confident you'll only have to deal with the alternative approaches to supporting for so long before you rise past to the 'right' way of supporting.

This. Just this. Yes in some cases it makes sense for supports to have some AP (like Morgana building Zhonya's or Sona with Lich Bane). However, they still need to focused on utility for the team. Items like Frost Queen's, Ardent Censer, Zeke's Harbinger all grant AP to help support mages while still providing some form of utility for the team. Those are the items that should be focused on, not Morellonomicon or Rabadon's or Luden's Echo.

If games go on too long when I'm Nami I notice I become rather useless outside of the heal and just overall cc. My damage isn't anything and I have to rely on my team more. Morgana However, if my team is ahead I can actually put a hurt on the other players. These are my two best W/L based supports but I use morg far more just because I feel more impactful. You know why support is by far the least played role? Feeling useless on your own. So yes, a lot of support mains have that one character that can actualy hit someone for noticeable damage because if they don't, it can mean the difference between a won and lost game. Obviously there are exceptions to this rule (Janna Soraka )

Tbh, I do this all the time with AP Supports except Bard because of his crappy AP scaling. I go Azir Blitzcrank full AP to feel like I can contribute to the team.

I'd have to disagree. At low elo, putting full faith in your team that if you build full utility they will carry you is to be frank, a crapshoot. That said for the most part I do build more traditionally with support/utility items. Perhaps i'll add on an ap item like Rylai's on Nami which gives good sticking potential for chases or peels.

Sona however is my exception. I've built her full utility. It's boring, uninspired, and honestly limiting. Part of being support is the fact you do want to inspire terror into that enemy botlane. Support doesn't meant you're "just" the ward/cc machine. You are potentially just as much of a threat. AP Sona (always with a full support item/Sightstone) is a fantastic lane bully. It's fun, and it more often than not, makes sure I win games.

Perhaps at higher elos, you can just sit back as an active items machine, but i'm not anywhere near that yet. I'm expected to not only provide vision, deny vision, peel, set up potential kills, but also output a fair amount of damage as well. I've double killed solo on a full utility Nami, and gone on killing sprees as AP Sona. There is nothing wrong with either kind of buildpath for support.

There is room for all supports in this game. A mage that has enough utility that can be fit into the support role is not a bad thing. It diversifies the game. No different than champs finding a different role they work in besides their default. Perhaps some people just don't like working around it or want support to be weak. I think all 5 members of the team can and should be strong and a united front.
