Why are people so reluctant on other roles sharing the same items?

A lot of you people ask for diversity yet complain when X role uses Y item intended for Z role. It takes more than just good champion picks to make the game diverse. It started with blue Ezreal being the first big ADC playstyle where he wasn't forced to build item 3031 item 3006 item 3046 item 3072 item 3035 (this was every ADC build in season 2) every game. It was pretty cool and had some tradeoffs like lack of crit. Did he deserve some of those nerfs because of that build someone made? Yes though to completely remove it is asinine.

Sterak's gage intended for bruisers to get a ton of HP and some extra damage. It turns out sterak's gage is also a really good anti assassin item because of how big the shield was.

Now there were some obvious exploits that completely removed a weakness of various champions. The most notable was runeglaive Ezreal. That was the sole reason AP Ezreal became such a huge threat. He got wave clear and most of his damage is now magical allowing for magic penetration to work.

Now we are on lethality being used on ADCs and people are asking for the stat or items to be melee only. Granted the real lethality to me is really strong is because of how much easier it is to stack it compared to armor penetration back then. RIot shouldn't restrict a bunch of items to be only available to a certain class. Only way to balance that would be to rework the entire itemization from the ground up and that won't happen.

because ranged champions take those items and use them better than we could ever hope to

but the inverse is not true; if i build full crit ADC-style on the majority of the champs i play as I'll explode before I even reach the enemy carry because i'm a shitty melee champ

There isn't a problem that an item is shared by more than 1 role.

There is a problem when that one role builds it and that item outcrowds the designated/currently existing choices. Or when that one role builds it and is better than the intended role building that same item.

So to put it back into context, lethality basically outshines the crit builds, and that people don't get to choose in between lethality or crit because that's how good lethality is.

That would generally be because ADCs use the items better than their intended audience. As a result, the items get nerfed to bring them back into line.

While the ADCs can just go back to their standard items, the core users of the items are all weakened by the nerfs and have to deal with it.

Also, one of the main reasons Flat Armor Pen was changed to Lethality was to make ADCs stop using it. Considering they went right back to it after lethality was buffed, that has clearly failed.

Because if there's more than one build for a position then you have to remember more than one build and ain't nobody got time for that.

There should be a trade off for building an odd item.

item 3053 for example.

ADCs are supposed to be squishy, glass cannon damage dealers. If they opt for a tankier build through items, they should sacrifice damage to do so. Through Sterak's, they did not - they lost crit and AS, but they can get all of that that they need through boots and 1 or 2 crit items. With IE, Greaves, PD, Shiv, and Steraks, an ADC would be nigh unkillable, pump out a lot of damage, and still have an extra item slot for a BT, Scimitar, or GA.

These odd picks are often more powerful than what Riot intends for them to be. If an ADC builds a tanky item, it should be situational - a Randuin's VS an all AD team, for example. Such a thing should not be standard, because it throws the balance out of wack.
