Reflection about Diana and escapes
Hello, in this thread I'll try to analyze why the actual Diana has no escapes and how she could have one in her incoming rework.
First thing to know about Diana is that landing her Q on enemy champions in lane mostly means that you'll out trade your opponent hard because of her burst damage, sustained damages, shield and chasing ability. When roaming or in late game it mostly means picking up a kill. That's why Riot wants to make it hard for Diana players to land it so that enemies can easily dodge it.
What would happen if Diana had a ground-targeted dash/blink as an escape?
Well, you could basically land all your Q because you could use it as a gap closer then use your Q at melee range which would be impossible to dodge and so, no mage could lane against Diana. Even if enemies would stay back and farm with their spells, she could still catch them. While roaming and in teamfights, Diana could also land her Q too easily thanks to this gap closer.
What would happen if Diana had an ally-targeting dash/blink?
Kinda the same as ground-targeted dash, you dash on a creep then land Q in melee range.
What would happen if Diana had stealth?
She would pick up kills too easily: she would stealth herself, get in melee range and land her Q, enemies couldn't do much.
What would happen if Diana had a movement speed bonus?
I don't think a single movement speed bonus is enough for an assassin to escape from a teamfight because you're still in the middle of the fight and can be attacked. Most melee champions with movement speed bonus are bruisers who relies on auto attacks, they have a ms boost to be able to stick to enemies while attacking. If she had one, it would be kinda the same as ground targeted dashes: she could easily get closer and then land her Q.
**The problem with Diana is that giving her an escape can also give her the ability to land her Q too easily **
What kind of escape could Diana have?
Diana could have a dash/blink that can only be used defensively, for example a champion-targeting dash that moves you away from your target instead of getting closer(like Caitlyn's but it would need a champion target). This way, you could still escape and cross walls but you couldn't use it as a gap closer unless you are between 2 enemy champions.
technically already has an escape/disengage in the form of Moonfall, but it's not strong enough to guarantee her an exit, nor should it. The issue with Diana right now is that, on top of pretty good burst and dive-in mobility, she also has a good amount of tankiness (that scales with her damage) and crowd control, which is more than what most assassin-type champions have, so having an escape on top of that would just make her way too safe.
