Another Solo-Q Post

Yeah, yeah, it's a big topic right now. One that I do favor greatly towards Solo-Q.

There are a number of topics already present about how Riot has been basically padding Dynamic Queue and lying about how much good it's doing and how great it is. We got that.

Well, at least from what I can see, there's not one tackling some specific instances of clear-cut and definitive bullshit that's present in some of Riot's arguments.

To provide an example of this, I would like to bring up one of the more infamous Rioter comments from a while back:

Hey guys, we know there are a lot of players who are really passionate about solo queue. We're not trying to be dishonest or dodge this topic. Radio silence on this the past couple months has been painful, we know. We hoped to come out with a direct answer to this, but working through the problems players are facing on live now (consistency around position select, queue times and matchmaking for high MMR) is taking longer than we initially expected. We did a bad job at managing expectations around this and deserve the heat we're getting around that.

That being said, solo queue does not directly address either of these problems and could suffer from the exact same problems. We'll be honest: there's definitely a world in which solo queue doesn't return, but we'd rather keep it on the table as we work through these issues before making a final decision.

So this coming straight from Riot Socrates, obviously as a solo-queue supporter I'm already biased towards this and will try to make the worst of it. So tearing the post apart is going to go against me to begin with more than Riot.

But then you have these couple of sentences:

"We hoped to come out with a direct answer to this, but working through the problems players are facing on live now (consistency around position select, queue times and matchmaking for high MMR) is taking longer than we initially expected.

That being said, solo queue does not directly address either of these problems and could suffer from the exact same problems."

Here are the issues with this argument:

  1. Queue times for high MMR were never an issue before Dynamic queue. The only times they were was when the entirety of the servers were experiencing long queue times. Solo queue actually absolutely would solve excessively long queue times because you no longer have to worry about facing teams against other teams but rather just facing single players against other single players.

  2. Matchmaking for high MMR was fixed not by dynamic queue but by the fact that you implemented new standards by which players would be grouped together (I.E., the Challengers being queued with Diamond 5's now being limited to Diamond 1's as the lowest they'll be queued with.). That wasn't even a problem with solo-queue - that was just your matchmaking system being ass in general.

  3. Consistency around position select doesn't have an absolute answer - the reason being there will always be those people. The people who want mid or feed no matter what. The people who place mid as secondary in order to boost the chances of getting their primary role. The people who are willing to "fill" but don't actually want to do one of the five roles. This consistency is only solved by having 5 people - surprise surprise, you just duplicated a full 5 team queue with that. This is a fallacy in that you are naming a problem with dynamic queue and saying that solo won't solve the issue when the fact of the matter is this will forever and always be a problem as long as people exist.

Now this is really just shit that is bugging me about this particular post. If I wanted to trudge up the myriad of other Riot announcement fallacies, I could spend the hours doing that. I'd rather fucking not because that's a lot of forum sifting I have to do, but I can accomplish such things.

The point here is this: Riot is not honest. Do not take them at face value. Read everything and give it some thought before you simply follow what they're saying, because more often than not they have been taking you for fools. I know this is bloody difficult for you lot, but read their posts carefully before you listen. If you care at all about the direction this game goes and would like to be able to play it in years to come, then you must do this so that we can ensure Riot understands this is not acceptable behavior and will not be supported.

Edits: After several tries, I finally got the preview to stop making the post look completely differently from what it turned out so this should be a lot cleaner and not buggy as shit.

It's really disgusting how Riot shapes the wording or numbers to fit their narrative. For example: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/riot-official/6WuZKauE-new-champ-select-update?comment=0037%29

I'm sure there are other posts which contain a more detailed reason of how BS that post from Riot is. But on first sight... how many times as solo or duo do you get queued against a duo (vs before dynamic queue) or a 3 man premade? Riot isn't that stupid to just leave such important information out. Disgusting.

There is also this video which the person argues about how Riot shaped the numbers to fit their narrative: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRhladd52_Y

For now, I have stopped playing LoL and purchasing RP points.

Please stop with these posts, they'll release it if it's best for the game, they won't release it if it isn't.

All these posts are just clogging up the Boards.

Actually, queue times for higher MMR were worse than what they are now with dynamic queue. If you were in Master or Challenger, then you'd wait a half hour for a queue

Higher queue times comes from new champ/position select which is NOT dynamic queue.

MMR issues with matchmaking is also generally caused from new champ select, since the ratio of certain available roles are so low they need to access lower MMRs to accommodate.

The variables in statistics can be controlled to show pretty much anything. You start with what you want your graph to look like and then start excluding things until you get something similar
