I get grief sometimes when I take the heal. Unless I know my adc is good/smart I normally take the heal. It’s saved more lives than deaths an exhaust or ignite would have taken. They normally appreciate it afterwards.
Reasoning is early game Sona/Soraka heals have a decent cool down. Soraka also looses health healing. (Most the time that’s easy to regain from Star fall). That “emergency” heal has continually saved out of position players from gank. It’s also allowed better players that extra few seconds of fighting to get that last hit in a kill or survive until my regular heal is back off cd. End of game it’s not quite as huge but still useful and demoralizing to the other team to see a should be dead person suddenly full healed.
The reality though is early game is so important in general play ranked or not. It’s when people get tilt. It’s when people get fed. So If I can demoralize the other team by not letting them get a sure kill and in turn give it to my adc that’s huge.
Also I just think that if I’m close enough to the enemy as squishy as Soraka or Sona are to hit an ignite or exhaust I’ve done something wrong and am likely the one dying.
With someone I know is good I’ll nornally take a teleport to help roam and prevent ganks when we see a rotation happening.
Maybe i might miss a kill or assist here and there but i just think the keys to winning are 1 not dying. 2 objectives 3 CS 4 kills
