Why pick reworked Cassiopeia?

So I just want to make a short thread about this because ever since the rework this question has been on my mind.

Why on earth should any player who wants to be competitive ever pick the reworked Cassiopeia over other champs? What value does she offer a team. I'm not asking this sarcastically I'm being dead serious. Why?

Her early game is abysmal at best, she is monotonous, she has mana issues in lane, she gets bullied by a massive array of other champions, she has no wave clear, shes easily gankable due to lack of an escape and fighting back while being ganked is pointless due to lack of damage, and her cc is laughable. Mid game is much of the same thing as early game except now her mana issues are lessened due to actually having a tear of the goddess, she still has basically no damage, and she still offers nothing to mid game team fights. Assuming the game hasn't ended due to your lack of influence early and mid game, late game she finally hits her power spike and has some DECENT damage, not extraordinary mind you but decent, though her range is laughable which forces her into danger just to deal damage, which makes it incredibly hard to function due to your lack of reasonable self peel or escapes leaving her vulnerable to cc and getting deleted late game even with proper positioning. Not to mention her damage itself is all very situational due to its reliance on first having to land a skillshot(her q) AND THEN having to follow up with her damage.(her e) Her damage just isn't reliable late game like an ADC who can just switch targets at the click of a button.

All of these things combined are what make me question why I should pick her over a different ap champion such as these that outclass Cass in almost every aspect.

Ahri: decent damage at all stages of the game, better cc, better mobility Azir: better sustained damage, better cc, better mobility Karthus: just as good sustained damage late game, game changing ultimate, actually useful early and mid game. Vladimir: similar range, just as good sustained damage, amazing AOE ultimate, amazing teamfighter, average/weak early, average mid game, strong late game. Better in almost every aspect. Ryze: better early game, better mid game, similar late game but also has innate tankiness he gains from items that also give him damage. Orianna: safer early game, amazingly better mid game, amazing late game, amazing damage cc and better self peel.

Like I'm just being honest. I tried to pick champions that had similar aspects to her(I tried not to add champions that were more of assassins rather than mages) and I know not all of these are exactly perfect examples but I feel like I have a valid question. Why should I pick Cass over ANYYYY of these champs. They outclass her in basically every way I can possibly imagine. Would like to hear what others thought about this because to be honest I'm at a loss, and yes I am a supporter of old Cass. I feel like she had aspects of her kit that made her unique, that made her strong and although she was a niche pick she still had her purpose.

bonus Old Cass: Strong early game, strong/average mid game, average/weak late game. Good aoe damage, good dots for applying rylais and liandries for killing tanks late game, had risky but also reasonably safe damage and good wave clear. Still vulnerable to ganks due to lack of mobility and range but could make up for it in early game damage and could some times turn a gank if played properly. Good outplay potential.

You'd pick the demolished reworked trashiopeah for several reasons:

  1. You want to spread the word of riot's incompetent balancing to the other 9 people in the game.

  2. You hate your team and just want to watch the world burn.

  3. You love sitting around watching paint dry.

  4. You were going to pick another champ around Cassiopeia but your little sister hit your hand and made you choose cassiopeia.

  5. You never read patch notes and didn't see her go through the woodchipper, only to be surprised by how sucky it feels in game.

Too bad there's not a single person besides a Riot employee that supports her rework.

So I am against the rework almost entirely, but I still play Cass ranked. Why? Because her abilities didn't change and that's what I've always like about her.

Yes her early game is horrible, there's almost no chance of killing someone in lane and I can't contribute anything to ganks or teamfights until 400 stacks because she just doesn't do any damage.

But she still has SOME of her unique quirks like:

  1. Activating Ult and then Flashing to cancel the animation. (This is still a very strong initiation, in which case you can land a noxious blast and miasma to back pedal and dish out Fangs to the front line).

  2. Her Mana refund for Twin Fangs is great. It really makes last hitting more fun. (of course the downside being if it's not a last hit, you lost a ton of mana)

  3. DoT...(To an extent)

Yes I could Swain (I don't remember why I stopped) or Malzahar or Brand (I use him a lot), I main Singed top, but they're missing something. I think my love for Cass's Ult and Twin Fangs keeps me.

So the rework focuses mostly on twin fangs. As much as I do enjoy the "are you poisoned? YES, NOW DIE!!!" aspect, I don't always play that way. Against a Malz, or Brand or Ziggs, that just isn't a realistic playstyle. So then I become more pokey.

I just wish that the changes weren't made. There was nothing wrong with her before, NOTHING. Nobody had an issue with her before, she just wasn't popular. Riot has wasted their time and resources trying to do anything to her.

Right now I would stay clear and away from her, this includes her state prior to the rework. Arm she is one of very few champs who have gated hyper scaling so even doing good or dominating in lane doesn't open this gate up

And despite her ability to have high sustained damage, mid lane is rarely about that; mid lane favors playmakinga and burst champs, something that Cass kit doesn't have. So new champs like Zed, Yasou, have this, Cass doesn't.

Again, if you need high sustained damage, ADCs scale better and are more reliable. You want a mid lane who runs around, is mobile, can assassinate or burst champs.

Unfortunately, riot doesn't seem to care in this segment; it's why reworked champs tend to be more UP, while new designed champs tend to have more overloaded kits

Cass needs a real rework that gives her actual mobility and damage that's more in tune with current game

Against all "common sense" Cassio has worked pretty well for me after the rework. Well, could be because last season almost every jungler around gold forgot how to gank over his precious Feral Flare :D. I found her to be a very stable pick (As long as you stay away from some very specific matchups)

I think one of the main mistakes alot of people make, is trying to chase that stupid 1000+ ap fantasy. You can't dish out that great dps if you are dead.

Like many people stated. Cassio is more like an ap version of an adc now. It is true, that she dosn't have some of the advantages of an adc (ability to switch target etc.). However, beeing ap also has some advantages, like a great selection of ap/def hybrid items, synergy with rylais and a strong aoe cc ult.

At the moment she still needs work though. Especially the manacosts early and midgame are just retarded. I am really looking forward to 4.21 as the announced changes look quite promising to me.

Try playing her with cheat scripts. (I don't but I have seen them in action.)

She's one of the craziest mid/late mage impacts due to move speed and poke, a proper ult with active ability spamming should sink anyone short of flashing out of range of twin fang.

I was really hoping someone who supported the Cassiopeia rework would find this thread and offer some insight. I'd like to try and have a reasonable discussion and hear what the other side of the fence might say for a counter argument to the points I brought up :/

There's anything left for excuse to play Cassio, ANYTHING. Not even the fun of her old gameplay. So there's no incentive.
