Ok I've been trying to play support lulu after taking a break from the role and I just feel like shes not working out as much as she use to (For the record I go poke/light tank lulu) so I started looking online and all I can find are jungle/mid/top guides, Has Lulu been nerfed out of her support role or do I just have to find a radically different way of playing her?
She has just taken a lot of hits nerf wise so she is weaker
Riot doesn't know what to do with her because of solo lane lulu. Honestly no real reason to use her over any other support, she basically lost all her niche support mechanics.

Lulu is my favourite character and I play her very often as support without problems. You can still do well poking, even if now it's harder, but lulu now is even more powerful in buffing. You have a lot of option and you can change focus even in mid game. The W+E combo, with R as backup, make your ADC a monster, for example. Lulu is still one of the greatest champion against assasins, you can easly defend you ADC from them.
Support Lulu is doing fine, I just adapt by maxing E first instead of Q.
She's fine, had one helping me get an S rank as Tristana last night.
In fact, she's getting buffed so that her shield also gives the ally attack speed, which can be awesome to many champions like Ashe, Tristana, Kog and etc.
Can I get some suggestions on builds? I tend to go in no paticular order spell thief, Zeke's Harbinger, Locket, Mobi boots, Sight stone and usually a situational item last (I really like censer) also health or armor for defenses? Last I played health was in.
Lulu support is actually stronger now in utility rather than damage. You should be maxing your E first and then your W and leave Q at rank 1. If anything lulu has turned into what janna used to be, an amazing peeler/baby sitter.
For builds you should be rushing censor on her since the stats it gives are just perfect for her, MS, AP, cdr and mana regen. The passive on censor will stack with your W giving someone 50% AS and it will also buff your shields even more and the magic damage stacks up with pix while u shield an ally.
Ardent censor- locket- crucible- lucidity boots- red sighstone- and you can build frost queen or sell it for something else (zekes maybe)
That should give you 40% cdr and u can replace lucidity with other boots if u go zekes. Her play style is a lot like janna but a bit more aggressive, u could always go talisman as well.
