Should reward buffs from Nexus Blitz events not be given to those who died before their team won?

I had it happen where I died before my team pushed the cart into the enemy tower and respawned the BF Shield. I kind of think that it should be treated as a Baron buff and that if you die before an event ends and your team won, you shouldn't get that shield. Anyone here disagree, and if so then why?
