Items are not the solution to fixing support...
...the champions are.
If you want to stop seeing champs like 
you're going to need add more supports to the game. There's only like 10, and of those there's only like 5 that are fun to play as.
Make more supports like 
where there's outplay potential and fun / interactive gameplay.

Last time a support was added was 
** 2 years ago**. Tahm, however he has turned into a top laner(he can still supp but not popular), which makes the last support release ** 2 years ago**, before that was which was 3 years ago. Before that it was ** 4 years ago**.
4 years later, you have 3 support to show for it, and you wonder why nobody likes support. It feels like you're playing Garen with the old supports; so binary and boring.
EDIT: I **love **the 3/4 supports that have been added over the past few years, but got the nerf hammer hard and Tahm has turned to top after heavy nerfs. Sona outclasses Bard's laning damage and heals without nearly as much skill as Bard takes. None of them are viable compared to others that are way easier to play (excluding the very viable Thresh).
EDIT 2: My only wish is that more supports are added, or the class is modernized. They have done a great job on the supports that I mentioned IMO, but there's such a small selection to choose from.
