Small Master Yi change?

I was playing Kayn against a Master Yi and he alpha'd after I had already gotten into him with my R and was winding it up. Point is his alpha dodged my R damage, and I think, at least thematically, he shouldn't be able to dodge the damage after I'm already in him. I'm unsure how it works with zed ult but my thoughts are similar with it.
