Getting fed in lane with a DPS ADC vs a Burst ADC
So there are purely auto attack based adc's and there are adc's with abilities and auto attacks. Ezreal has abilities and autos. So does lucian.
Jinx, Draven are both dps because the key to getting a kill in lane for them isnt hitting someone with a q lightslinger and then getting away before retaliation is given.
If you want to get ahead with these two, you have to practice minion based trading and you have to play off of your support. There have been a number of times with jinx in which ive only gotten a kill after my support procs my passive. A lot of the time if I try and dps, ill get focused by enemy adc, support AND minons. So I die or I have to back off, sort of playing dps leap frog with my support to get the kill. Ill dps and then when agro moves to me, ill let my support take over until I drop agro and then give a few more autos to complete the trade or get a kill or whatever. Kills usually happen when the enemy trys to follow after my support as he moves back to our minions.
Its much easier with someone like lucian that combines dps and burst dmg because it reduces the amount of leap frog you have to play with the support. As a dps, you constantly have to play the leap frog game unless you have an overwhelming hp advantage. With lucian, there is a point at which you just have the burst dmg to kill your lane opponent outright. It doesnt even matter if you are even with respect to hp. U just have to go off first and you can win. And your mobility helps you do that safely.
The dps adc in the same situation NEEDS. 100% NEEDS his support to tank some dmg in that situation. Otherwise minion aggro can be the deciding factor, a burst ability might get you low enough that you cant win even though you have better dps.
I just want people to start realizing and talking about the fact that mobility is powerful in this game because of what it naturally does for you, and then has extra power because it makes you less reliant on teamwork. I think its poor design that riot has given mobility to a lot of really high burst champions. Its not balanced on them. Its much more balanced on dps champions because they have to stay alive longer and need to kite. Im not saying that you need to move the mobility around to make me happy or anything. Im just saying that putting a crap ton of dmg on graves and lucian is not smart because they have so much mobility. Theres not a good way to put draven or ashe or jinx on an even footing without breaking them.
I actually think draven jinx and ashe are in a pretty decent place. Id give draven and ashe about 650 range rather than 550 and 600 respectivly, but thats about it. I think its much better to "Corkie" the graves lucian meta. I know Corkie has a shit win rate, since the nerfs, but should ability based adc's really be dominating their dps and auto attack based counterparts in a tank meta like this? Thats the thing I want ppl to start thinking about. Is lucian really better than ashe in this champion meta? Why is he better? Should he be? Is it a sign of imbalance?
