Let's talk AFK and ARAM

I just played an ARAM game where the enemy team had an AFK right at the start. At first, I thought "That's too bad (not sarcastic; I hate AFKers). We have an advantage now because we're playing 5v4. Stupid AFKer."

However, later in the game, an issue arose that I hadn't thought of. I was looking at the enemy's items when I noticed that while my team was level 11-12, then enemy was levels 14-15.

THREE LEVELS UP.

I know what happened; the enemy team was now sharing experience from the minions between 4 players instead of 5. Therefore, they ended up getting more experience, and they reached level 18 when most of my team was still around level 14.

In the end, my team lost; no offense to my teammates, but we would've lost even if the enemy team didn't have an AFK. This brings up a clever mechanic Riot put in to give 4v5 teams a chance to come back... in ARAM. However, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this, and if one side was too overpowered in the end.

I'll include a poll too, so I can get a general picture of what the boards experience.

5 coordinated players > 5 uncoordinated players 5 coordinated players > 4 coordinated players 5 coordinated players > 4 uncoordinated players 5 uncoordinated players < 4 coordinated players

This issue (experience being divided among 4 players instead of 5) isn't an problem; it's a chance for a 4-man team to beat the 5-man team. It's definitely an uphill battle for the 4-man team, but it can be done. Of course, in ARAM -- team composition will also be a major deciding factor whether the 4-man team can explode the enemy nexus. However, it can be done and I've won a few 4v5 matches (although losing when down a teammate is more common).
