When does Bot Lane want to push lane? When should Bot Lane not push lane?

I generally see EVERY Adc want to push lane, and I don't understand why. In this season I see very few of my junglers come to visit bot lane, and then the adc just gets ganked and dies.

When does Bot Lane want to push lane? When should Bot Lane not push lane? Because basically, it seems adcs just want to shove all the time?

depends on:

  • how the lane is at the moment (pushing in or out)
  • matchups ( some have trouble last hitting under tower )
  • jgl pressure
  • if you have a lead or not

When the lane is pushing in (into your tower) you can freeze it in front of your tower, to set up ganks or make it easier for your sup to engage and chase them. When ahead you can cheese additional kills that way and or deny cs. Or you try to push as fast as you can to make sure the enemy loses some cs + tower damage and to reset the lane. If the lane is slowly pushing out (to the enemy) you also want to push faster to reset the lane. Sometimes when the wave is fucked ( the enemy can freeze the lane) you may try to clear the wave as fast as possible so you can run back to a safe spot.

It´s just a decision to make that can be right either way sometimes, but sups and adcs are not always on the same page. But if you always push in and don´t see the gank coming you are definitely doing it wrong.

additional ideas:

  • wave manipulation is more a toplane thing, even some higher ranked adcs don´t think about it.
  • maybe just greedy for tower firstblood
  • maybe they think that putting up pressure is always good?

Losing - no choice but farm under turret if the enemy shoves in. If they freeze in front of their turret, bad situation, try to carefully throw aoe to make the wave crash in so that it resets. Usually good idea for jungler to come to help because a good enemy won't let you close to reset the wave if they can.

Winning - freeze in front of your turret, prevent them from resetting it by zoning.

Then in general (this is for top lane, pretty sure same thing for bot), stack a wave, shove it back in so that it resets when you need to back.

Freezing the lane while zoning the enemy is usually preferable because you're cutting them off, but you shouldn't be afraid to push bot lane. Bot lane is not about freezing the wave like top lane is.

The side that gets shoved under tower with no successful counter pressure generally loses, but there are a few exceptions. Truthfully ADC matchups bot lane are unforgiving, so outside factors are what really matters.

Pushing the lane is fine unless the enemy ADC can safely farm under tower and you don't have vision. A LOT of ADCs forget that they have a warding trinket, and it is absolutely crucial that they ward with the support because they don't get wards until around the 8 minute mark.

The next step in the decision process depends on who the enemy jungler is and what side of the map you're on. For example, you won't want to push against a Hecarim unless you've warded deep because he can get to you guys before you have time to back up. In some cases you and your ADC will need to buy control wards for champions like Evelynn (In general if you're pushing, the support should try to buy one). In other cases you'll need to ward in specific areas like if you're on blue side against a Kayn, ward behind the wall instead of just in the river bush because that's usually how they gank.

As long as the support pays attention to the mini-map and looks at what is going on around, and the ADC listens to their pings (easier said than done), then they shouldn't have a huge issue with ganks. The only exception is the dreaded 4 man dive, and if you see your midlaner performing poorly, then you save everything for that moment because it will come and you better believe the midlaner that lost won't call missings or push mid tower. Its good to have a contingency plan in place for these types of matches because counter pressure bot lane isn't always a guarantee either.

Experience is what matters. There's no hard and fast rules when it comes to this subject because every situation is different.

Level 1 always hard push for the level 2 spike. The only time you dont want to hard push is when the enemy bot lane is like a draven nami or something super oppressive and can both push faster than you and harass you.

Hard push the wave before backing. If you dont have much waveclear than back after the wave before the cannon wave dies. The enemy cannon minion will tank extra tower shots while you return.

Hard push the wave maybe a minute or so before the enemy jungler comes botside. By the time the enemy jg clears his camps and looks for a gank bot, the wave will have bounced back close to your tower.

Closer to mid game, hard push the wave right before a dragon fight. This way the enemy bot lane will be forced to decide between farming the minions crashing into their tower or joining the fight. If they join the fight, then they miss out on a ton of xp and gold. Basically, whoever has control of the wave has more roam potential.

There are certain champion specific times when you are safe hard pushing. For example, if the enemy team has a rengar jg then the rengar will avoid ganking before 6 as his ganks are awful before 6. Another example is ezreal. Ezreal wants to hard push as he can harass the enemy bot lane under tower with his q and if the jg comes, he can just e away.

hi youre high ranked, but idk if you know this-- lookup "freezing lane" on youtube for league. there are other more advanced laning techniques too but that i think is what youre getting at right?

So I see people are feeding you..."interesting" answers. Allow me to breathe some truth into this thread.

Marksmen shove lane 24/7 because it's simple to do, it feels good to last hit, and they aren't actually thinking about wave management, jungle ganks, lane pressure, kill potential, or any of that jazz. They're simply playing on auto-pilot and making your life harder as the support to get them fed or save them.

Are there times where you should shove? Of course. Should you be consistently shoved? Fuck no, but people don't think past the first sentence in this paragraph so you gotta live with a bunch of morons that don't know how to manage a wave. There is very little benefit to being shoved in unless you have a very clear way to dive the enemy for a kill once you reach turret.
