Let's Discuss Shen

First of all. Shen has crocs. Yes, this is real life. http://twinfinite.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/shen3.png

But seriously let's get into this. Now I don't know about you guys but Shen has been my go to top laner and occasional jungler since season 2 now. I would like to hear your opinions on the new Shen rework. I've had a lot of fun testing him out on the PBE for the last couple of days now and would like to share my experience.

I think they pretty much killed off Shen's top lane viability by removing any form of range and sustain. At best he will have a good time against weak early game melee champions such as Nasus. While his trade potential is good against almost all melee champions he will struggle, and struggle hard against ranged. Such as satan Teemo. His slow is not strong enough to prevent kiting and if he misses his taunt there goes everything he has. He is now SO reliable on his taunt that you almost have to max it first haha. But I wouldn't say that they killed Shen, they just moved him to another special place where I think he will find a new home.

Jungle Shen always had slow clears, but with his new Q his clears are quite good now actually. Just like the old Shen he has no trouble clearing his entire jungle without having to back and still being able to gank in between. And his ganks are better than they were before. His taunt remained the same (except it does more damage based on your health) but he does have a built in slow now. And if you really want to go devourer Shen that is still an option thanks to your ult. You can just powerfarm and counter gank with your ult.

So I think Shen summoner 11 will be better than Shen summoner 12 from now on. I'm working on 2 videos about this topic and I'll be releasing one before his release and one a few days after so I would love to hear your feedback!

Thanks in advance :)

as a jungler who has only played Shen summoner 11 and enjoys him quite a bit, you're completely right. he seems much stronger in the jungle now

and i hate the rework. despite it being a net buff for my role, his Q was such an important ability. it gave sustain, it gave ranged poke, i can't even count the number of times i've gotten kills with those desperate last-second sword throws, and i really wish he'd at least get to retain the range and sustain aspects in some way.

also, the way the sword follows him around is extremely clunky and awkward and doesn't feel very ninja-like at all. it should follow more smoothly, rather than jumping across the screen every time he gets too far away from it.

Third option: support. I haven't had a chance to play him, but looking at his new kit, it seems like Riot solidified his support abilities.

Just based on a superficial look through the rework, my estimate is that he'll overall be less of a lane bully due to losing his ranged harass, reliable sustain. it is possible that he'll make up for the sustain in better defense with the shield but I imagine there will be some match ups that will be much less favorable for him.

However I think between the shield, new interactions with Q and having a dodge field he'll be even more of a lane bully certain top champs. Not only does he have a dodge field but they recently changed the rules of "empowered auto attacks" which buffed Dodge.

I'm actually more curious about how his new Energy pool & regen stats will impact is overall tempo
