"Stop Dying"

So, was reading another thread and this piece of advice was brought up a lot, mostly to point out how bad/ridiculous it is as advice but I couldn't understand why.

Like, I tell myself this all the time, sometimes even after my first death. If I start a fight, or drag a fight out thinking I can win, but end up losing I know its my fault and why I died. So I tell myself to stop doing that dumb shit, and to stop dying.

Why is it bad advice exactly? When you say this to a person, they know exactly why they died and should be able to refrain from actions that risk themselves getting killed.

With some exclusions, obviously. Getting back to back dived or 4 manned are tricky to avoid when you're alone or very far behind. But giving up 4+ kills in a lane is just indicative of people repeating the same mistakes and needing to be told to stop dying.

"Stop dying" does not give the player any advice. Avoiding death is already a goal players are aiming for. It's about as useful as saying, "Play better".

"Stay further away from enemies" is advice, as is "Don't engage until we are all there". But not "Stop dying".

It means don’t duel, poke or fuck with the enemy. Other lanes/jungle are winning. Sit tight on the fucking turret and get carried. Try to poke some cs with skills and don’t trade at all.

You are right, it's bad advice, but it's not even meant as advice.

When someone says that to you, he basically says that you should stop feeding your ass off and solo losing the game.

U can pretty much always stop dying. The question is is what u were doing worth the death? If u know u lose tower and huge wave if u walk up to last hit that cannon and enemy jg is sitting in bush rsy to pounce, then give the cannon, wait for wave to crash to turr. One step further if u know mids been missing and a 4 man dive is likely, move further back from turr until people who would dive u show elsewhere on map. Minimizing deaths is huge, but this all comes with game knowledge and awareness.

"Stop dying" is like saying "Kill your enemy" or "win lane" or "win the game"

How the fuck am I gonna do that?

Let's put this in another perspective. You're a researcher, and your head researcher says "Cure cancer". Well how the fuck do you want me to do that boss man? If he says "Test this new chemical compound on 10 samples with 5 different doses of your choice" then we're getting somewhere. If he says "Do tests on 10 samples with doses of 5,10,15,20, and 25 mg." then he's telling you how to do it.

Thats some primo hyperbole

If you're feeding 4+ deaths in lane it's cuz you overestimated your power vs the enemy power, or greeded for creeps or plates. And then repeated those mistakes.

I can relate that having someone else tell me to stop dying can be tilting but when they don't say it rudely, or follow up with some kind of plan is still good advice imo.

Sometimes it's necessary hearing this to pull you out of the tunnel of trying to get even in lane with brute force.

Maybe my perspective is different as a top main. In games where I end up feeding this is the only advice I get from my allies, even when you're countered so hard your only choice is giving up everything, because that's just top lane.

But yeah, I wish people could step back from their pride and just take the advice at face value.

People who say this tip is useless are the same people that log in the boards and make posts about how they are "the best player in the world but Riot made a conspiracy around them to stop them from climbing and also fuck smurfs" etc. Not dying is literally the best thing one can do agter they die once or twice in lane.

And to the people who say "Oh what if they have a 93/0 irelia who dives me" Well, don't feed her 93 kills in lane phase.

You ask that to someone who is feeding>the guy proceeds to int even more.

But like. Just stop dying.

Or... You can't die in League of Legends if you don't play League of Legends.

Since Riot cares so much about "verbal toxicity", the word "stop" should be a 0 tolerance word. I'm surprised it's not. Everyone thinks its toxic.

But there is nothing toxic about it... Hmmmm...

Also "not dying" is nobody's goal.

I don't think "stop dying" is bad advice because I don't think it's advice. It's a plea or begging.

Do this. Before the game look at your teams and the other teams. KDA. Add up the deaths on each team. Compare who has the least deaths to the win ratio in the games you play. You will find a striking correlation between the team that averages less death winning more games.

There are of course other factors like champions they can get pounded repeatedly early and hit there spike and totally destroy the other team. Of course, even in that scenario, if you avoid feeding your opponent it makes the game much easier for the rest of the team. Remember your team has to deal with the guy that was fed too.

Also there are champions that when fed earlier just run over the team. Is it really worth trading a death to someone like that?

Not all deaths are created equal. Not all kills are worth the death used to secure it.

This doesn’t even take into account when you die. Giving the enemy that ace just to secure one kill often is the end of the game.

"Not dying" was the first skill I worked on before "get da kills" and averaging less than 5 deaths a game alone was enough to get me out of bronze.

Its definitely something to work on. I imagine it's not so much "bad advice" as it is "demotivating" in the moment. I usually wait til after game to point out stuff like that. :-/

I love when your playing toplane vs a top/jg duo and your being constantly tower dived, then your jungler whos farming krugs on the other side of the map goes 'stop dying idiot'

Like what a fucking mastermind why didnt I think of it

Hell. Players are so toxic and expecting toxicity, that saying simple stuff like "keep pushing top" is considered toxic.
