before thesilver jungler mains comment "sit under ur turret xd lawlz!!" i was dived multiple times and my j4 woudl recall with full hp 14 units away saying "noob"
It's not determined by ganks. If you don't push the lane and make yourself easily gankable, especially with a lane opponent like Nautilus who sets up ganks really well, you'll be fine.
I'm really amazed this got so many downvotes, it's really true most the time, I had a lane against a Xin awhile back where I was going even but starting to fall behind as the ganks kept coming. Eventually I lost my lane to him, the enemy jungler, mid, and support all came top at some point, but never saw a single person from my team, I went 0/1 in lane, picked up pinks and warded everything up as best we could. We eventually lost the game anyhow as our jungler and bot lane fed really hard, but it at least really wasn't the fault of the top laner in that game.
Ganks and counter ganks in top lane win that lane more, we see it a lot in LCS games, or they decide to trade towers so they can utilize deeper warding to avoid ganks as much. It seems that the tier 1 towers don't matter much right now other than the team gold attained, if they are pushing your top lane hard go TP into the lane your jungler goes for as soon as you see him go for a gank and then kill that tower with your team, don't even worry about your tier 1 tower.
Sometimes it's just not worth it for junglers to gank a lane. Maybe you're worth 0 gold so if you die it doesnt really matter, and meanwhile their jungler is camping you, your jungler can take Dragons / Counter Jungle / Gank other lanes. And it could just be a waste of time in general, if you're vsing a nautalis top that can just hook to a wall or something. And top isn't determined by who gets ganks, i go many games as top and get 0 ganks and crush lane, - Fiora op.
This has a lot to do with your opposition being pretty bullshit at dives. Which begs the question as to why you didn't try to do other things after the second death.
Ill be straight honest woth you. Its almost your job to get ganked woth no return ganks. The more time they spend top, the more time your jungler has to snowball mid and bot.
I have found incredible success top lane with lulu, lissandra, and Mundo. Farm safely from a distance, and when late game comes your a beast. Throw in the teleport to bot lane here and there and boom you just went even or won your lane.
