as a support player i do not see how these support item changes will offer me more choices

I really liked the quest rewards and the choice to upgrade into active items and i put a lot of thought into what items i want to take on specific champions in certain scenarios. It felt like i could make decisions even if some choices were suboptimal for most of the time.

And with the new changes, it seems like i will just take the support item with the best stats now, skip the 800g on sightstone and continue to buy the same stuff as before, but now there is even less synergy as before.

i´ll now try to explain why at least imo riot is about to remove, like many times in the past, another layer of depth in an attempt to "streamline" a certain aspect of the game, but before i do that i feel like i have to explain how i approach champions, items, builds so that you can see were I´m coming from.

The thing is even in a competitive game I am more of a explorer-type of player. I find a lot of fun in just looking through items/keystones/champs etc. and testing a lot of unconventional builds (i love the practice tool) just to maybe discover a synergy that turns out to be surprisingly effective or just fun. This often clashes with the competitive nature of this game, where it is frown upon to experiment unless you're popular, then it´s ok and becomes the new meta. Long story short i love to have lots of different items that can interact with a champion´s kit in unique ways to create different build options even if some may turn out as not as effective as others or too situational.

so now i will talk about why these changes fall flat when it comes to this aspect. _they simply removed too much!_ item 2049 item 2045 item 3092 item 3069 item 3401 removed without replacemts -actives removed -quests removed

when deciding which item to take you could ask yourself a lot of questions:

-do i need those stats? -how does the quest reward synergize with my champion´s kit? -how quick can i complete the quest for this support item? -how gold much generates it compared to the others? -should i upgrade it for the active or combine it with my sightstone? (most of the time u didn´t) -should i upgrade into a ruby to make the most out of my 4-5 active items?

as u can see some of these questions work against each other and in that way create choice, for example, you could have a champion that would really like a certain quest reward or certain stats but cannot generate much gold with it and vice versa. So you can try to find a way around this problem or acknowledge that it is or is not worth the effort. Whatever you DECIDE there is some form of interactivity here.

and if you simply you remove things you just reduce the pool of parts that can interact with each other, reducing the number of questions that can come up, leaving the player with fewer decisions to make and therefore less choice and interactivity with the system.

i pretty sure that a lot of you will argue that itemisation and masteries, for the most part, are solved systems that leave the player with only a few optimal choices, but imo this is just a sign of bad balancing and riot´s inability to create unique item´s/masteries that do not overshadow each other, but work as tools for specific situations or playstyles.

i for once can't wait to buy the same item´s as before 800g earlier at the expense of a bunch of items, actives, and quest rewards [slayer-jinx-unamused] .

The choice will mainly come from the fact that tier 2 items will gain the warding active, enabling you to move on straight to other items instead of finishing the Eye. Locket, Redemption, Rylais rushes will be faster.

Riot also said that the actives of FQC and ToA will likely come back in another form, so there'll be the options for rushing those instead too.
