Aatrox build - tank or damage...

I really love aatrox but I can never really figure him out. Maybe some people that have played him, especially with his Rs new cool down can help me out.

First, what role should he fill? Tank or damage?

I ask because if I build him tank he isn't really that tanky compared to a full tank (ie voli) and cant really do any damage. Maybe even full tanks do more damage. If I build him damage he gets killed fast and cant do damage like other bruisers (ie fiora/jax). So what should he be built? Is he just broken? I just wish he was a tank and built to go tank or was just damage and built to go damage. Am I wrong in that he cant fill either of these roles well?

You typically want 1-2 damage items depending on how the game is going. item 3153 item 3074 are usually my 2 key damage items to rush on him since they both work so well with his kit.

Afterwards I get a item 3065 for the increased healing effect and durability.

Then going straight tank is recomended, itemize for how the game is going. Try going tanky without stacking to much health, since blood price deals self damage based on max hp.

If you jungle with him, devourer into BOTRK into tank is brutal.

If you can split push effectively, then build at least two damage items. BotRK and Hydra. Hexdrinker into eventual Maw is also good if you're against a heavy AP lane, like Vladimir. If you're against someone like Irelia or Jax, I'd go BotRK then straight tank, as you'll be very unlikely to 1v1 them in a splitpushing scenario.
