Alistar variety

So, as of preseason 6, I've become an Alistar main. I love his sustain and his all around all-in potential. Even after the recent nerfs to his Triumphant Roar he's STILL my go-to support (Windspeaker's Blessing has just become better because it helps pick up the slack in his heal and passes around a mini-aegis). However, a few questions have been coming to mind in regards to items for him.

As support, I'm usually rushing item 3401 (Only just recently began experimenting with item 2303 due to it's seemingly more efficient build path) then into either item 3190 or item 3060. After that I'm finishing T-2 boots with Distortion and the game is generally ending at that point. What are the most efficient items for support Alistar after the lane phase ends? I love item 3742 for the obvious aid to engage but otherwise I'm at a loss and usually end up picking up the highest/most efficient armor/mr items I can think of at that moment. (I usually ignore item 3075 unless they have 2 or more auto attack reliant champions)

I'm also considering running him top lane but I have even LESS of an idea how to go about it. Does anyone have good rune/mastery/build suggestions?

As a support, you should really be picking up a frozen heart. The aura really makes a big difference, and the CDR is great. Righteous glory is awesome on him, because it allows you to run up and land an easy q then w for a good pick on someone out of position. I have had some success taking him top and building Titanic Hydra first. It solves a few of his solo Lane weaknesses and encourages a super tanky build.
