How to Use Bans More Efficiently and Win More Solo/Duo Queue Games.

Don't just willy-nilly ban champions like Zed or Shaco just because they frustrate you. Instead, use your bans to screw over the enemy without screwing over your own team.

For example, if none of my teammates want to use him, I almost always ban Lee Sin. I don't think he's OP at all, and I can out-jungle and out-pressure him most of the time. I can also beat him in a 1v1 given he's not too far ahead. His win rate is even below 50%!

So why do I ban him?

Simple, I ban him because he has a 25.66% Pick Rate, over 10% higher than the second most-picked jungler, Vi. That means that the enemy jungler is most likely a Lee Sin main by far. By banning Lee Sin, I have a higher chance of preventing the enemy jungler from playing his main.

This applies for all roles, not just jungle. If a champion has a pick rate that's far far higher than other champions for that role, you should be banning that champion. Otherwise, if the pick rates are fairly close, such as in the case for mid lane and top lane, then find the higher win-rate champions near the top of the pick-rate list and ban those.

If your team coordinates with each other, you can significantly increase your chances of screwing over three members of the enemy team before the game even starts. You may also want to focus on banning three champions from one specific role, for example, mid laners, if your own midlaner is not as confident in his/her ability to carry.

This is also why almost every high-elo guide on the internet will tell you to main at least two champions on your preferred roles, because you really, really don't want to be the one-trick pony whose main just got banned.
